طَافَ (ṭāfa) I (non-past يَطُوفُ (yaṭūfu), verbal noun طَوْف (ṭawf) or طَوَاف (ṭawāf) or طَوَفَان (ṭawafān))

  1. (transitive, intransitive) to circulate, to circumgyrate, to go around [with بِ (bi) or عَلَى (ʕalā) or حَوْل (ḥawl) ‘where’]
    • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 56:17:
      يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ
      yaṭūfu ʕalayhim wildānun muḵalladūna
      There will circulate among them young boys made eternal.
