Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *yok-karï (“above, upwards”), a development of *yok (“high, tall, elevated”). Cognate with Azerbaijani yuxarı, Bashkir юғары (yuğarı), Crimean Tatar yuqarı, Kazakh жоғары (joğary), Kyrgyz жогору (jogoru), Uzbek yuqori and Yakut соҕуруу (soğuruu).
