[edit]Etymology
[edit]갤마 (gaelma, infinitive of the verb 갤마다 (gaelmada)) + 주다 (juda, auxiliary verb forming benefactive verbs). The first verb is of uncertain etymology; it presumably means "to teach", but is almost never used outside this single compound verb.
Verb
[edit]갤마주다 • (gaelmajuda) (infinitive 갤마주어 or 갤마줘, sequential 갤마주니)
- (southeastern Gyeongsang) to teach (something) to
Usage notes
[edit]- Mainly used in the city of Changwon and its environs such as Miryang or Gimhae. Seems not to be used in nearby Busan.
- Other Gyeongsang varieties have 갤춰주다 (gaelchwojuda), 갈차주다 (galchajuda), etc., where the first verb is the general word for "to teach" and which corresponds directly to Standard 가르쳐주다 (gareucheojuda).
