Etymology

[edit]

From Middle High German küchen, from Old High German chuhhina, from Proto-West Germanic *kukinā, from Latin coquīna. The -i- instead of -é- is irregular; perhaps due to interference by unrelated Kuch (pie, cake), diminutive Kichelchen or influence by German Küche.
