[edit]From Proto-Balto-Slavic *kistis, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kʷit-tis from (s)kʷeyt-. Cognate with Sanskrit चित्ति (cítti, “thinking, understanding”) and Avestan 𐬗𐬌𐬯𐬙𐬌 (cisti, “consciousness”).
