Gayuma

@JamesTor2egosa Besides Cebuano gugma, are there other words from the Austronesian family that can add support to your claim *gəʀ(u)ma? You initially claimed it to be Proto-Malayo-Polynesian as well. Do you have sources for this? Ysrael214 (talk) 20:27, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

Hello, I'm sorry I dont really have any sources to tell you frankly, but the consistency of sound shifts between "gayuma" and "gugma" have lead me to think that there was such a prehistoric word. See, I am no professional linguist but I have been a huge nerd on historical linguistics for years and am quite knowledgeable on Philippine sound shifts. With that, I do not mean of course to coerce you to accept my "findings" and I do believe that more research has to be done to prove or disprove this. Also, I have to admit that I unintentially claimed the unattested word to be Proto-Malayo-Polynesian since I just copy pasted the template from other entries. Cheers! Module:number list/data/ceb

When you removed "waláy" from this module, this caused module errors at Cebuano waláy and way. I removed {{number box}} from "way" because it shouldn't be in entries for minor variants. For "walay", though, I don't know enough to fix it- so it's up to you.

In general, you should be careful when you change or remove spellings in such modules to check the entries for the spellings and fix them, and to watch CAT:E for a day or two in case you missed one. No one else knows what you're doing, so cleaning up afterwards is your responsibility. Chuck Entz (talk) 16:25, 19 June 2024 (UTC)

formatting messes

@Ysrael214 @TagaSanPedroAko Hi. You are making a mess of formatting and possibly making other mistakes.

1. You moved the definitions of bayi to baye, why? The Cebuano dictionaries I just consulted list the spelling of this term as bayi. You identified bayi as "eye dialect" but this seems wrong.
2. Although you moved the definitions, the quotes still say bayi. That suggests bayi is maybe the correct spelling. If not, an explanation is needed.
3. You deleted the pronunciation from bayi but left the hyphenation, which is strange.
4. When creating multiple variants in a headword, it's wrong to list them comma-separated. You need to say e.g.

   {{ceb-noun|báye|head2=bayé}}

Hello. Please excuse me for making any formatting mistake, it's really not what I'm best at. I would be glad to be corrected in any case. As for "baye", it follows the spelling suggested in Binisaya.com, and as adopted by Cebuano publications (see Appendix:Cebuano spellings) where allophonic [ji]~[jɪ]~[je] is spelled "ye" such as in "babaye" and "dayeg". This should make "bayi" a pronunciation spelling of "baye". As for the example spellings, I have to admit that I simply (mindlessly) forgot to change them. I deleted the IPA section of bayi for I thought it would be unnecessary in an entry for an alternative form. JamesTor2egosa (talk) 11:14, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
