Welcome

[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! --Apisite (talk) 21:32, 27 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please stop

[edit]

None of the pronunciation files you're adding exist. You can make sure by pressing "Show preview". Fytcha (talk) 13:11, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Fear not, for they shall exist very soon MooreDoor (talk) 13:13, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Oh I'm sorry. I didn't know there was a delay. From my end it looked like you've added dozens of wrong links to all kinds of articles. Apologies! Fytcha (talk) 13:13, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

reanimate

[edit]

Hey MooreDoor! I saw you requested the audio recording of the adjective form of reanimate... would you mind double-checking the sound file I added? I'm happy to record if I didn't get it right, or if there are other improvements you would suggest. = paul2520 💬 20:03, 4 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, Paul, I can't do it. Best to ask someone else MooreDoor (talk) 21:10, 4 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
OK, I checked it. It's clearly fine. Keep up the audios! MooreDoor (talk) 10:09, 5 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Marking requests for verification as passed or failed

[edit]

While I appreciate your enthusiasm in helping out on Requests for Verification, you have a tendency to mark words off too soon. There is a process, which includes letting cited entries wait a week before marking them as "passed", and entries should not be marked as "failed" until a full month has passed since they first appeared. Kiwima (talk) 19:58, 8 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

While I appreciate everything you do, I am notoriously sloppy. Screw the process! MooreDoor (talk) 22:54, 8 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Chaucer + W1913

[edit]

This combination means "change it to Middle English" (since W1913 did not distinguish). That kind of rhymes. Equinox 14:54, 22 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

In Wonderfoolese, this combination means "delete it". MooreDoor (talk) 14:55, 22 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
