Tocharian A
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Tocharian *erkent (whence also Tocharian B erkent), but from there uncertain. Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *h₁regʷ- (“to be dark”) (cognate with Ancient Greek Ἔρεβος (Érebos), Old Norse røkkr (“twilight”), etc.) or Proto-Indo-European *h₂erǵ- (“white, shining”) (cognate with Latin argentum and semantically akin to English black <> bleach).
Adjective
[edit]arkant
Usage notes
[edit]- This word was often used as a compound, as the Tocharian languages were particularly agglutinative.
