German
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Middle High German hovelich (“in accordance with the customs of the court”), which is derived from Middle High German hof, from Old High German hof, from Proto-Germanic *hufą. [1] By surface analysis, Hof + lich. In a similar way is Old French cortois derived from cort.
