    Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, Queensland Major Flood Warning For The Ross And Bohle Rivers And Flood Warning For The Black River Issued at 10:56 PM EST on Friday 31 January 2025 Flood Warning Number: 3 MAJOR FLOODING EXPECTED AT APLIN WEIR EARLY SATURDAY AFTERNOON WITH FORECAST RAINFALL MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT MT BOHLE As advised by Townsville City Council, Ross River Dam will see controlled releases through the spillway. This will contribute to flows downstream in the Ross River. With forecast heavy rainfall major flooding is expected at Aplin Weir early Saturday afternoon. Heavy rainfall totals have been observed in the last 24 hours which have resulted in river and creek level rises in the Ross, Bohle and Black River catchments. Heavy rainfall is forecast over the next few days, which may cause further river and creek level rises. The situation is being closely monitored and warnings will be updated as required. A Flood Watch is current for coastal and adjacent inland catchments south of Cairns to Mackay. A Severe Weather Warning is also current for the Herbert and Lower Burdekin and parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands. Ross River: Major flooding is expected along the Ross River. The Ross River at Aplin Weir is currently at 0.51 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (1.10 m). The Ross River at Aplin Weir is expected to exceed the major flood level (1.80 m) early Saturday afternoon, with forecast rainfall. Further rises are expected across the next few days. Bohle River: Major flooding is occurring along the Bohle River. The Bohle River at Mt Bohle is currently at 7.46 metres and rising, with major flooding. The Bohle River at Mt Bohle is likely to remain above the major flood level (7.00 m) overnight Friday into Saturday. Further rises are expected with forecast rainfall across the next few days. Weather Situation a low offshore of the Northern Queensland Coast is bringing bands of showers and rain onto the coast on its southern flank today, with this rainfall forecast to increase over the weekend as the system stalls along the coast. Very significant rainfall accumulations are expected over the weekend due to the slow-moving nature of the system. HEAVY, LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL and DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas: North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Locally INTENSE RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS and LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is possible between Townsville and just north of Innisfail from this evening, becoming more likely over the weekend, with isolated 6 hour totals possibly reaching 230-280mm. There is uncertainty as to exactly where the heaviest falls will occur. Elsewhere in the warning area HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is possible from this evening and will become more likely over the weekend. 6 hourly rainfall totals between 100 to 180mm are likely, with isolated totals possibly reaching up to 220mm. 24 hour rainfall totals of 200-300mm are also likely over the broader warning area, with isolated falls of up to 500mm. Catchments across the Flood Watch area are wet after recent rainfall and will respond quickly to further rainfall. Heavy rainfall is forecast across the Flood Watch area from Friday and especially over the weekend. A Severe Weather Warning is also current for parts of the North Tropical Coast, Tablelands, Herbert and Lower Burdekin.
