Cloud Computing Is Finally Fast Enough For Access Databases

Started building Microsoft Access databases in 1996 and started Access Database Cloud in 2019.

In 1996, before cloud computing, we started building custom Microsoft Access Databases for local businesses. In 1999 we launched our Microsoft Access Database programmer website and have built databases for over 500 businesses. Back then it was very complicated to put an Access Database online without having to completely convert it into a website.

Our clients like using their application “as-is” without having to pay to convert it into a format they could not manage themselves. Many user-friendly features were lost when converting to a web-based system.

We Waited For A Fast Cloud

We had to wait until technology came along that would provide the same level of experience online as it did in an office - or better. Several times, over a period of 10 years we tested databases online without modifying them but the experience was always too slow. Each time we tested the performance it was simply not acceptable to use an Access database “as-is” online without changing it. After years of waiting finally we discovered that better cloud computing technology and sophisticated protocol improvements finally made cloud computing so fast that in most cases you felt like you were not on a cloud desktop at all. The experience felt completely live whether you had a strong connection or a weak one.

How We Tested Our Cloud Desktops

Once we found that cloud desktops had become fast enough to run an Access database online “as-is” we started testing the databases of several of our clients in many different situations from distant locations.

We ran their databases using WiFi connections while in airports, restaurants, and stores. We used their databases with cell connections while in taxis, on buses, on boats, on trains, on underground subways, walking on sidewalks, sitting in neighborhood parks and even on beaches! We even used them while on flights above 25,000 feet.

We did these tests from all over the world. No matter where we were the performance was excellent. We used their databases on cloud desktops from Austin Texas, San Francisco California, Honolulu Hawaii, New York New York, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney Australia, Auckland New Zealand, Taipei and Taichung Taiwan, Kyoto and Tokyo Japan, Prague and Brno Czech Republic, Rome Italy, Sao Paulo Brazil, Bogota, Cartagena, Barranquilla and Medellin Colombia, and many more.
