Rows of pink, green, and blue seashells make up this lovely crochet afghan. The She Sells Seashells Afghan is an easy 4-row pattern featuring the shell stitch. If you are crazy for Shells, this free pattern is for you! This crocheted afghan would look great in a girl's room.

Easy

Crochet HookH/8 or 5 mm hook

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Throw Measures:  46” x 54”

RED HEART SUPER SAVER:  2 skeins each 0668 Honeydew, 0381 Light Blue, 0373 Petal Pink

Crochet Hook:  5.0mm (US H-8) or size needed for gauge

Note:  Design is done in multiples of 6 plus 2.

Gauge: 4 rows (Rows 2-5 for pattern) – 2 ½”                         

              Shell, sc – 1 ¾”

Special Stitch:  Shell – (3 dcs, ch 1, 3 dcs) in space or stitch as indicated in instructions.

 

Row 1 (RS) : With honeydew ch 146, sc in 2nd ch from hook, *skip 2 chs, Shell in next ch, skip 2 chs, sc in next ch, repeat from * across to last 7 chs, sc in next ch, skip 2 chs, Shell in next ch, skip 2 chs, sc in last ch, fasten off and turn.

Row 2: Join light blue, ch 5, *sc in ch 1 space of Shell, ch 2, dc in sc, ch 2, repeat from * across to last Shell, sc in ch 1 space of Shell, ch 2, dc in last sc, turn.

Row 3: Ch 3, 2 dcs in same stitch, *sc in sc, Shell in next dc, repeat from * across to last sc, sc in sc, 3 dcs in 3rd ch of beginning ch, fasten off and turn.

Row 4: Join petal pink, ch 1, sc in same stitch, ch 2, *dc in sc, ch 2, sc in ch 1 space of Shell, ch 2, repeat from * across to last sc, dc in sc, ch 2, sc in top of beginning ch, turn.

Row 5: Ch 1, sc in same stitch, *Shell in dc, sc in sc, repeat from * across to last dc, Shell in dc, sc in last sc, fasten off and turn.

 

Color Scheme

Continue working Rows 2 – 5 for a total of 85 rows as follows:

(2 rows each honeydew, light blue, pink) 13 times, 2 rows honeydew

 

Edging

With honeydew work along top edge, (dc, ch 1, 4 dcs, ch 1, dc) in right corner sc, ch 2, [sc in next ch 1 space of Shell, (dc, ch 1, 4 dcs, ch 1, dc) in next sc] across, ch 2, (dc, ch 1, 4 dcs, ch 1, dc) in last corner sc.

Work along side edge [ch 2, sc in space between next 2 rows, ch 2, (dc, ch 1, 3 dcs, ch 1, dc) in space between next 2 rows] across, ch 2, (dc, ch 1, 4 dcs, ch 1, dc) in first bottom sc.

Work along bottom edge, ch 2, [sc in ch below Shell, (dc, ch 1, 4 dcs, ch 1, dc) in ch below sc] across, ch 2, (dc, ch 1, 4 dcs, ch 1, dc) in last sc.

Work along side edge [ch 2, sc in space between next 2 rows, ch 2, (dc, ch 1, 3 dcs, ch 1, dc) in space between next 2 rows] across, ch 2, join to beginning dc and fasten off.

Each color used in this She Shells Seashells Afghan has its own individual character and stands out by itself. However when combined together in one project design, it did not come out as stunning. Using a more vibrant color combo would make the whole project more exciting. Cheers!

I'm trying to include a picture of the afghan I'm trying to find directions for, it's a ripple and looks like trees. Seen it in green shades and blue shades.

Hello, I am a beginner. Dc is double crochet but what is dcs?

I made this afghan. It was:-) fun to make and is just plain pretty.

I apologize. I just saw what the multiple is for this afghan. I plan to make it soon.

I am an avid Roseanna Beck follower. I see that now she's putting a note in that gives the multiples so we can make her afghans to the size of our liking. I think that's great and that every designer should do that when possible.... Sue N.
