I highly recommend this as a solid PC controller, but please go into Steam Big Picture and then controller settings and disable "steam desktop input" or something with a similar name. If you plug this controller into your PC with that enabled, your controller's inputs will control your desktop. In other words, the left stick and d-pad will scroll up and down pages, the right stick will act as a mouse, etc. Disabling that setting in Steam Big Picture fixed it completely for me. I've never had the issue with any other controller on PC, likely because they were purely third party controllers, whereas this one is technically third party but is officially licensed by Microsoft. Funny how that works, huh? If I had one complaint, it would be that the face buttons (A, B, X and Y) feel kinda flat. Not bad, but just a bit flat. The triggers feel fantastic; even better than what I remember 360 triggers feeling like. The bumpers are great, and the sticks are really smooth and fluid, and don't feel rough on the top. I saw some people complain about the d-pad, but I think it feels great. The back buttons, sadly, don't come automatically mapped to the same actions as A and B do, unlike two other third party switch/pc controllers I've used, where they would auto swap to whatever A and B were assigned to, but not a big deal for me or most players, I'd imagine. A solid 9/10 controller. Would be 10/10 if you didn't have to change settings in Steam, and while it's probably unfair to blame Microsoft and 8Bitdo for that, it is something that I've only experienced with this controller out of several...other than that I haven't had to do any tweaking :)

Initial impressions mostly good.
One of the main reasons I had been in the market for a new controller because my prior third-party controller had very stiff, clicky buttons which made mashing a nightmare. The buttons on this controller luckily press much more smoothly allowing me to keep up again anytime I need to hit buttons quickly. On the contrary though, I actually prefer the more stiff D-pad of the old controller. I can foresee myself likely hitting diagonals on accident more often on this one. Relatively minor but the triggers on my old controller also feel a little more satisfying to press, I think because they depress more than the triggers on the controller. There is some raised dotted texture on the backs of the handles to improve grip which I'm still unsure if I like the feel of it or not; might just take some getting used to.Being able to customize the controller some is nice. The software is not bad. As someone who has woken people up by leaving a controller plugged in and starting to play a PC game with keyboard and mouse, being able to customize and disable vibration is a big bonus. I probably won't get as much use out of the custom buttons on the back of the controller as some, but just having them there for when it would prove convenient is nice. It was a slight surprise to me to see that, from what I can tell, you can't make macros in the software for the custom back buttons. I can't think of any situation I would care to use a macro on controller myself, but had just kind of guessed it would be a feature. From the company website it looks like you are able to make macros for some of their controllers but not others, so be aware of that if that's an important feature to you.

I bought this controller thinking it would just be a cheapo crappy thing to get me by until I could afford the more expensive legit Xbox controller. I was wrong lol This controller is AMAZING! You'll definitely need to get used to the smaller triggers and the angle of the hand grips is straight down rather than at an angle and that also might "weird" some ppl out during use, but any uncomfy feeling will fade as you get used to it. The controller works PERFECTLY, all buttons perform perfectly, press well and feels fine. The thumbsticks are nice and tight feeling, there is a slight play in the thumbsticks when pressing them in to get to the R3/L3 buttons, but that is ok and if its a major issue I can always replace the actual thubsticks as they appear to be the same size and shape as the proper Xbox ones. I am VERY happy with this controller. So happpy that I bought a second one to replace my GF's failing controller lol very good product, but only a few days into testing.

Quality gamepad that works in Linux

Originally got this because I couldn't figure out how to get the current XBOX One wireless controller working in Pop!_OS (20.04) it's Ubuntu based. There are a couple different open source solutions out there for getting XBOX One (and compatible) gamepads working but none worked for me till I found "XONE" through a Reddit thread. I'm not sure if Amazon will allow links so just do a web search for "medusalix xone ubuntu" and it should be the first github link. If you're running Linux I'll assume you can follow the instructions on the page listed in the README.md file. I'm not some kind of Linux super pro grizzled beard admin, just a tinkerer, system builder, gamer. Haptic feedback works with this driver too! Full functionality with Steam games anyway with native XBOX controller support. About the pad:
Seems solidly built. Cable also seems sturdy and should last many years of casual use.
Force Feedback motors are nice and strong. Not sure how 8BitDo tuned them but they feel more satisfying than the ones in my older XBOXOne wireless controller. It's not a strength thing, more like. I dunno, just feels better.
Analog sticks feel about the same to me, as well as the buttons, just the right amount of pressure and a satisfying motion when depressed. Really well tuned & really I feel like all the face and shoulder buttons feel the same (As a stock XBOX One Controller) but with 2 notable exceptions. 1. It has buttons on the underside that I have yet to use, but have very satisfying resistance and click, but even more notable is the analog triggers. The travel, smoothness and spring loading is just soooooooooooo nice. Waaaaaaaaaay better than the analog triggers on my XBOXOne wireless controller IMO.
As for ergonomics, both the wireless controller and this one feel really nice, but I have to say that I prefer the 8BitDo Ultimate overall. It has a slightly thicker looking profile top to bottom, and the hand grips just feel better in my hands, slightly narrower I think. I'm a little over 6' feet (182 cm) tall with average "paws" to match. Oh the controller is roughly identical in size to a stock XBOX controller. The model 8BitDo used has small hands.
All in all I think this is one of the best alternatives to a "classic" XBOX One controller that exist. Can I get 10 years out of this with casual use like I did with my original XBOX 360 USB controller? I don't know, maybe. Decent price, amazing force feedback and ergonomics, no batteries ever, oh and completely plug & play with Windows 10 and 11 of course as well.
