I do the tune ups on all my small engines. I'm of the generations that they taught small engine repair in high-school. Most people forget that when you buy new spark plugs that you need to adjust the spark gap based upon manufacturing recommendations. Adjusting the spark gap maybe needed when doing maintenance and tune ups. These small but functional tools make adjustments easy. Adjusting the spark gap is not difficult but as we age our hands and eyes aren't as good as they were and any advantage an inexpensive tool provides can be useful.

If I place a .018 thousand feeler gauge and crank the wheel down pressing the ground electrode. Then remove it it leaves around a .021 gap. I eventually had to place a .011 thousand feeler gauge on it to achieve an .018 thousand gap. The ground electrode springs back after removing spark plug from the tool.
