Yokai fantasy series set in Meiji Imperial Japan. As such, most characters are dressed in kimonos/yukatas and there is the theme of Westernization of early modern Japan versus traditional Shinto customs and practices, which is a theme I felt was original and I liked. Coupled to this there's the ever-developing love stories between demi-yokais and young IJA officers, and a fantasy background with juujin heroes and villains. Though nothing special, it was well-executed. Voice acting was above average and animation was beautiful. The ending was good, though I was put off by the fact that we don't get to see the climatic kiss between both leads, which is something I'm sure many were waiting for through the series.
Overall, a nice romantic fantasy series. If you like the history of Imperial Japan, and also like fantasy coupled with a little romance, this is for you.
