I'm beginning to see a pattern in the animations that no-one bothers to review on Anidb.
oddly however, this doesnt fit into it easily
This here thingmy is most likely a one shot for the purpose of taking advantage of an extended time slot on broadcast. Which hints at the quality of it.
As a visual craft exercise, it shows far too much of the early-mid nineties style of animating, and while there are a handful of series that managed to get said style right this isnt one of them. What it does have is straightforward, not visually appealing or particularly interesting, but it is not a horrible failure either. The good side of mediocre.
Music wise, it rocks a few bells of note, which makes sense considering the point of the show. front back and sides of the musical effort hold up to very close scrutiny, and manage to achieve a few good things.
Voice actor wise its yet again nothing special, although a few characters convey considerable personality effectively through voice alone.
As a script writer's potential paycheque, whoever recieved it laughed loud and hard I am sure. This holds the sort of quality you can buy on an unused vhs from the 80s. More exposition than need be (which miraculously managed to convey nothing at all), a plot that was ripped straight from at least 200 D&D campaigns and nothing else really worth noticing.
For a such flat story the characters manage to be at least 2.5 dimensional. True, yet more disjointed exposition occurs, but there would very limited ways of explaing who they are and why they;re doing it. It is a matter of a cointoss as to whether the fact only two main characters got such treatment is a good thing.
Having finally watched the source series that this spun off of; I can say it has nothing whatsoever to do with said source animoo, and most likely has more to do with the source books than animation.
Therefore, dont take this too seriously, its a time burner, but a half decent one at that.
