Maybe someone has actually read the novels and can explain why they ended the series where they did? Is it the end of the common route? Or we're having the Gangsta situation all over again?
Btw I did play the game, I finished it in September, I haven't watched the anime (only looked a little at Episode 1 or 0 whatever it was) but I can say that the game is very good, from reading the comments it seems to the anime was to be taken as a way to complement the game and was just done for the people who played the game as a way to fill in some of the blanks from the game as it has new scenes that weren't depicted in the game.

The only way I can describe this anime is like someone wrote an outline for a series, then made the anime based on that without actually writing anything beyond that. Alternatively it would fit as a "Cut Scene" compilation of a video game. Story is completely disjointed and nonsensical. Visually characters are bland. Characters themselves have no depth and you have no connection to them so when something bad happens there is no impact.
This is the worst anime I've ever watched.
Story
Some guy gets bored and on a dime turns crazy evil and instantly super powerful. Then he just disappears. Skip ahead like 60 years and some random kid gets attacked by someone. Some super powered people, underlings of that aforementioned crazy evil dude, and doing something.
Kid's childhood friend / sister is some how possessed or something, no explanation given. Somehow he solves that, not really clear how, some girl from the past who was killed has something to do with him. More of those super powered dudes come to town and attack. There is a third kid who apparently has some sort of power that is just thrown into the story.
Fighting, the girl from the past appears, some sort of romance or something is suggested but falls flat. She gets kidnapped by the Evil Crazy guy. Apparently she is connected to some other god like guy who is above the evil crazy guy, again he's randomly thrown into the story. Kid 1 rescues her. Super Powered people kills lots of people for some reason to make Evil Crazy dude more powerful or something.
Apparently there are another tier of underlings of the evil crazy dude that are introduced for no reason only to kill the lower super powered underlings.
God like guy has some connection to the evil crazy guy, like brothers or something. Some one is born and immediately grows into a full adult, I don't know what that is all about.
I'm going out on a limb, here, and say that they weren't banking on the anime being a great advertisement for the original..... Because a poor advertisement is certainly what they got.
Zarlan probably thinks this is a masterpiece, though.
This is trying to be a 'deep' philosophical thing, a chuuni edgelord fantasy, a battle shounen, and a school-life ecchi harem all at once... while failing miserably on all fronts.
Some notes:
There's nothing confusing about episode 0.
It does set a bad first impression though due to the slideshow quality action animation.
The antagonists are all psychotic in the manner of Hellsing.
Ironically, the school life segments are the best part.
The school life segments are not very good.
The action scenes, which should be the main draw, are all pretty terrible in both theory and execution.
it has decent quality and the battles are gore-y and enjoyable for the most part but i barely understand anything plot-wise. there's no flow to the story. just random stories thrown at you at random times. i would love it if the plot was more coherent. A guy who is all powerful and his slightly less powerfull friend start destroying and killing everything to experience something that they haven't experienced yet and in the process create a couple of humans who have similar messed up relationship and goals. and everyone goes against everyone for reasons that nobody really understands. was the person who wrote the plot high at the time?
