This series is very well done. It has got only 12 episodes but it managed to develop all main characters so well. The animation is done well too, as expected from one of Wind -a breath of heart- producer. Story.. I think I shouldn't comment on it since I don't like depressed story.

Basically if you're a fan of plot twists, angst, indecisive lead characters, drama, then this show IS for you. Stay away if you can't handle drama...seriously stand back.
NOTE: I do hear a lot of ppl saying that this is "the greatest romance anime evar!!11" well I just have to say that it's not the romance that makes it great...it's deeper than that - the lesson learned at the very end, that is if you paid enough attention to catch it.

ef has the kind of drama and romance that I like to watch, but it has it's problems. A minor one is that the animators tried to introduce new visualization elements and some of those worked for me, others did not. However they were courageous enough to attempt something new, which is why I am willing to overlook those scenes that did not work more readily. The more serious problem is the interconnection between the two plot lines and the scenes in the (roughly) first two-third of the show. While the two plot lines do have a common theme (i.e. memories), they are basically independent otherwise. Since there is a constant jumping between them in this part of the show it seriously disturbs the "flow" within the episodes. In the last third the plot lines are disentangled and finished one after the other and the show gets better in these later parts.
If you like (teenage) drama and romance you might want to give this one a try, if however you are not a fan of the genre there is not much reason to watch it.

Yeah the ending was nice and the music then left me with a great feeling (just like Honey & Clover did back then). Any one knows the title of the song? It's the same as in the prologue file starting at 1:28 - well may as well rip it out from that file.
The animation style differences however often seemed too randomly placed to me >.>
And I didn't like the voice of Chihiro, sounded forced emotional (if at all).
Opening song is called Euphoric Field. Has 4 versions: english, japanese, TV edit., instrumental.
Not big into this genre, but I loved it. Though I'm not a big emotional man, felt like "Should have taken painkillers before watching it."
Finished it in a space of a night; now watching season 2.
Shame that will be the last.
Excuse me but are we living in the same galaxy? Have I entered some strange dimension where people say everything backwards? Did anyone actually see this series before commenting?
I see comments like "well developed characters","great story", Great plot twists and drama.... Is this a joke? What plot twists? What development of characters? There was at most 10 seconds of character development for both main characters. They throw in serveral side characters who you don't even know the name of. And any plot twists were standard forced cliché choices of laughable magnitude that any low quality series always has in the end.
The "ef- a tale of memories" I saw must have been some other show because this was among the worst I've seen in quite a while. There was no character development worth mentioning and the series was about two paper-thin stories with a pathetic attempt at real drama with so many flawes in so many ways I had severe trouble to watch it to the end. I won't even comment on the creepy undertones of underage intercourse this disaster has.
Well that Chihiro could remember the don't-know-his-name-anymore was a twist. The whole memory defect (anterograde amnesia) topic reminded me strongly on the '50 First Dates' movie and there the end wasn't like that (the woman at the end had to read her dairies every day to even "remember" her boyfriend/husband). But seeing how the story developed at the station it was quite guessable that something like that would happen.
That story was a melodrama.
And when you need the little twists to be pointed out then you either didn't watch the anime well enough, are a genius (then pls don't look down on the others for being entertained by a dull show while you were not) or watched too many shows with same or very similar settings/themes.
Also there was obvious character developing. The characters at the end weren't like they were at the beginning (well, maybe the guy whose name I forgot was - the one with the awful hairstyle; and the girl that didn't want to be forgotten). Personally I wouldn't call it well-developed (the inner turmoils aren't development and the changes that happened came out of the blue sometimes) but good (as in: I liked it).
And that's all that matters. Entertainment.
After all the viewer is egoistical. No one who was entertained cares about those who weren't. At least I don't much
Well this serie was diferent from the "cliche" school romance anime I watched. It wasnt 10stars anime, but I think it was something that wasnt here yet and so a vote for 9 stars......all animes have theire bad sides bad this anime have more good sides.
And for Izuel: if you so hate this anime, then why are you even commenting it ??? Somebody likes it, somebody dont... but bad-mouth it. Isnt it a litle bellow the mark?
PS: Im from Europe, so sorry for my English if it was bad...
For a show that bases its entire existence upon promoting drama, the vesicles, that is to say the characters, connect with me far too little for success. I just can't bring myself to give a rodent's posterior about any of them save for marvelling at the straight-laced promotion of their awkwardness and their archetypical personalities. The outcome of each story seems pre-determined from three episodes in; the only reveals are just the piling of more angst onto the characters.
What's worse is that I loathe the 'slack-jawed indecisive male harem lead' archetype... And this show has three of them.
LATER:
HA, HA HA HA HA! There, you see! This will teach you to... Trifle with the Centauri cynical old geezers! You boring, unoriginal...
...Heh. You know, this show was shorter than I'd expect it to be...
first i hated the switch story thing then i hated the eye patch girl one in the end i cryed for both of this one i deserved second plase in the pole this made me made cry lafe happy and a little horny (hey those sex seanse were hot) this is the shit hoyl fucking crap
For Zeny: All feedback is appreciated; good or bad. I've been wondering if I should even attempt to finish this Anime, I gave it two episodes and it put me to sleep on both, so negative comments and positive comments are well appreciated by those that haven't seen it--completely. There are more people out there who haven't seen it, and are wondering if they should even put the time in for this series. I can tell you that comments like "I loved it!" or "Its my on my top 10" and so on are less helpful because they don't state why it was so great for that individual.
As for myself, I'm putting in the effort to see this, but mainly as something late at night when I can't fall asleep. If the series picks up later on, great. If by the end it doesn't, it still served a purpose.
