Biography
Suzy Klein is responsible for commissioning all arts and classical music output for BBC television channels and iPlayer.
She oversees a huge range of programmes. From the incredible true-life tales captured on canvas in the returning format Extraordinary Portraits, to a celebration of Agatha Christie as a feminist icon in Agatha Christie: Lucy Worsley on the Mystery Queen, from a multi-part cultural survey of the postwar period from Simon Schama to an Arena film that revealed a revolutionary new reading of the poetry of TS Eliot, Arts shows range from premium reputational series to factual entertainment-style formats and award-winning singles.
From the work of the most feted artists in history to crafting at home, each title Arts makes brings new insights, surprising perspectives, and a deeper understanding of creativity in all its forms.
Classical music makes up a large proportion of Suzy’s brief, including commissioning The Proms for TV and events including Cardiff Singer of the World and BBC Young Musician. Working with the BBC’s performing groups, her team have created a new series on BBC Four - Inside Classical - bringing the orchestras to TV viewers throughout the year. Recent single classical music programmes include Michael Tippett - The Shadow and the Light, The Alehouse Sessions, Tenebrae: Bach to Macmillan and the Vienna New Year’s Day Concert.
Before joining BBC commissioning, Suzy was a presenter on TV and radio specialising in music and arts, and previously spent more than a decade working in factual TV production.
