Douwma embraced the realm of electronic music, transitioning from a self-taught producer to a global sensation. Initially drawn to rock music, particularly inspired by The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers, Douwma's foray into electronic music began at the age of 13 when he discovered computer software for music production. Adept at crafting dance music without traditional instruments, he found his niche. Influenced by jungle and drum and bass, Douwma's breakthrough came in 2003 when RAM Records boss Andy C signed every track from his demo CD. In 2005, Douwma claimed the number one spot on the UK Dance Chart with "X-Ray / Scarecrow."
