HMRC (HM Revenue and Customs)
HMRC - which stands for Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs - is a Government department responsible for the collection of tax and National Insurance. It also gives out some state benefits including Child Benefit, Child Tax Credits and Working Tax Credits. HMRC also handles Customs Duty charges on imported goods, as well as similar import fees on alcohol and tobacco and a duty on the sale of fuel.
