If you are booking waitomo caves, it’s very close. There was a restaurant in the complex as well as another a short walk away. There was also a store very near. We did spellbound glow worm tour and it was about a 5km drive. Which was okay with us. I had the best sleep of my stay while there.

Great location, sparkling clean, common area and kitchen very orderly and well-equipped. For a family, it was nice to have the extra amenities like the tennis courts, swimming pool, and the animals!
I’m glad I read the reviews so I was not surprised by the owner, who was indeed a character. Both the staff and the owner were very helpful with extra information about the area.
The whole place is not soundproof, we could clearly hear the phone conversation of someone in the next room, and other guests in the early morning, walking up and down the halls. If you were a light sleeper, you might want to keep this in mind and make sure you have earplugs.

Nice reception. Great communication. Clean, new, great wifi. Loved the kitchen and lounge central hub which was a very nicely converted old homestead building. I would def stay here again without hesitation.

Exceptional hosts and an unbeatable view. Te Tiro really lived up to its name with an incredible view looking out over the valley with views all the way to Mt Ngauruhoe (aka Mt Doom) in the distance. The cottage was quaint and charming with everything we needed for our family of 4. The deck was also nice to sit out on play cards with our kids in the evening, while the private glow wore grotto made was a really cool bonus. Angus and Rachel were also really great hosts, so nice and welcoming and very helpful with recommendations for things to do.

I would rate it higher if I could. Rob and Liz are superb hosts. Most gracious and generous. A stay here will be the highlight of any trip.

We booked an excursion with The Legendary Black Water Rafting Experience Waitomo Caves and it was amazing! Our guides, Garret & Alicia, were fun, helpful, informative, and made sure were were safe in the cave & the water; this is is a must do! They take pictures for you because it would be impossible to float in a tube & take pictures yourself.

Our tour of the caves with a local guide was great.
Our tour of the caves with a local guide was great. It made all the difference that it was a local Māori guide telling us the historical story of the caves and those that first offered it for viewing. Our guide was funny and informative.
The walkways were well lit and we felt safe the whole way round.
Our grandchildren 11yrs and 8yrs loved the boat trip in the dark and were mesmerised by all the glow-worms.

On this trip we went with Spellbound Cave Explorer.
On this trip we went with Spellbound Cave Explorer. Went to two caves the first, after a short walkthrough bush we entered the cave and then got into a rubber raft where we were pulled along the underground stream , looking up at the ceiling it was covered with glow-worms. Very pretty & fascinating. After a coffee break we went into the second cave where we saw lots of stalagmites and stalactites and even the bones of an ancient extinct bird, the Moa. The guide was very knowledgeable and told us how the rock formations were formed. An excellent tour.

Stunning stalactites and stalagmite formations. A huge cave.
Stunning stalactites and stalagmite formations. A huge cave. The tour guide was well spoken and clear and sung beautifully to demonstrate the acoustics.
Very clean and spacious walking areas, well supported stairs. Much bigger than imagined. The glow worms were so pretty it was like a stary night sky in the outback. Priceless experience.

Glowworms good.
Glowworms good. Cave formations underwhelming compared to Tasmania and not value for money, tour guides were excellent though.
Village pub and restaurant food was just average but staff were friendly and professional.

We did the Waitomo Cave boat tour in the evening before dinner and the Ruakuri Cave tour the next morning. They both were stunning. Guides were friendly and informative. We heard from another couple on the second tour that they had done several other caves and an exciting adventure (the Abyss if I remember correctly). I want to do that next time.

Very nice location, convenient to do any possible activities around Waitomo Caves.
Breakfast was excellent! Helen and John are very friendly.
Due to our late arrival even adjusted the check in times for us. Thanks & highly appreciated!!
We love it!!
Very close to Waitomo Caves, so it was super convenient. We arrived late, so we didn't get to really experience the whole hotel area except sleep. The basics are met here.
