Truly a five star experience. Old school charm and luxury at its best. Loved that the hotel is a 320 year old building located right on Church Street with the grand Moederkerk (Mother Church) in full view just a 100 or so metres away with many other historic buildings, art galleries, restaurants, cafes and shopping in the immediate vicinity. Comfortable, well decorated rooms with a well stocked fridge, coffee machine with pods supplied and everything needed to make a nice cup of tea. Full ensuite bathrooms. Dinner at St Helena's restaurant was excellent with outstanding service.
Offering stunning views of the Drakenstein and Simonsberg Mountains, this boutique hotel offers luxury in the heart of the Stellenbosch and Franschhoek Winelands.

Everything is beautiful. Service is exceptional. You can sense from the way the rooms were made that there was a lot of attention to the smallest of details and needs of the guests. They were more than generous in everything which you don’t always find at hotels, even 5 stars. Everybody that works there is also very attentive to details and such a great help to make the stay easy and enjoyable.

The hospitality and welcome was amazing. We felt thoroughly spoilt from the start. The staff were very attentive and the attention to detail made it feel more than a four star hotel. I especially enjoyed the welcome neck massage as a sample of the spa treatments available.

I liked historical overview of Stellenbosch, it's illustrious heritage as a University Town the blend of the old and new and some of the nice people I met especially Elizabeth Newman from the University, who took me on a brief but eventful tour around the city.
I traveled for work, I already have plans for my upcoming trip. I got around the transportation system quite late and hopefully revisit when the weather is decent for outdoor activities

Stellenbosch is extremely touristy but manages to remain winning and enjoyable. The biggest drawback is the traffic which seemed to be even worse this trip. That said, hotels are generally helpful in valet parking your car for you. If you can't find it in Stellenbosch, it is probably neither trendy nor traditional! The artworks located around the streets are very effective, and once you have stowed your vehicle, the town is very walkable - and safe.

We had mixed feelings.
We had mixed feelings. It is a large town most of which is not of great interest to a tourist. The centre is attractive and old but can be visited in a couple of days. It is the centre of many vineyards which are the main attractions. They need some research before choosing which ones to visit as they vary from large ones with multiple activities and restaurants to those that just focus on wine.
It is also close to Franschhoek which is worth a visit.

I am sad I didn't get to explore Stellenbosch more.
I am sad I didn't get to explore Stellenbosch more. We did the Jonkershoek hike which was absolutely beautiful! Highly recommend! We also went to the Hillcrest Berry Orchard for lunch which was super cute. The town itself is considerably safe and a big student town so it was lovely to see so many people living their best active lives out on the streets. Vineyards and mountains as far as the eye can see! So magnificent!

University town, so was very crowded and a nightmare to drive in. Over rated. There were quite a few eating houses. The price of both restaurants and accommodation are excessive compared with the rest of South Africa.

Stellenbosch is a bustling university town surrounded by mountains and beautiful vineyards with wine tasting on offer. The Cape Dutch houses, especially in Dorp Street are beautiful, and a 'must see' for any visitor. There are numerous shops, bars and restaurants that will suit any tastes. We did a guided walking tour which you can book online or at the tourist centre. Our guide was very informative with a wonderful sense of humour. We learnt a lot about the history of Stellenbosch. Book lunch on the decking at Postcard Cafe at Stark-Conde wines. The situation is spectacular. Then go to Old Nectar Gardens just a little bit further on the road from the entrance to Postcard cafe. Any visitor to the Western Cape should not miss out on going to Stellenbosch.

The breakfast was one of the best that we had in South Africa with such helpful and polite staff. We forgot to bring the correct adaptor for our mobiles in South Africa and the hotel kindly lent us one until we had a chance to buy one. The hotel coordinated our taxi there and away to Cape Town thereafter. Overall the hotel was brilliant and we would certainly stay there again if in Stellenbosch.
The location is great, plenty of lovely wine farms and restaurants very close by, the room with self catering facilities gave us the independence we wanted and the pool area was great for chilling at on some of our quieter days.
Great location. Lovely, well appointed unit with everything one would need for self catering. Off street parking is a bonus. My go to place to stay when visiting Stellenbosch. I will be back. Thank you to all at Laanhof!
