Greenhouse inflation kits create an insulating layer of air between a double layer of poly plastic. This helps to reduce condensation and conserve the heat inside of the hoop house.
The second layer of greenhouse plastic is installed with lock channel and spring wire. The space between the two layers of plastic is filled with air using a simple air pump and outside air. Filling the space with air creates a pocket of insulation. This pocket of air acts as a barrier between the warmer air within your hoop house and the cooler air outdoors. When selecting a plastic greenhouse covering, you should choose a thickness of at least 6 mil. This thickness is the benchmark standard set by the NCRS because it is meant to last 4 years or longer. There are other sizes available with more or less thickness, but 6 mil is the average thickness of a heavy-duty greenhouse film. We also offer woven greenhouse plastic, which is ideal for added light diffusion. Perfect for those in harsher climates who need strong, hail-resistant covering that still maintains poly coverings' flexible advantages. Shop all of our Greenhouse Plastics here.
Always a good idea to have some supply of this on hand. Little holes in greenhouse plastic from tools, branches, or rocks kicked up by machinery can become big holes in the wind quickly. Having repair tape on hand to take care of these immediately will keep your greenhouse covering going strong for longer. We offer repair tape for our 6 mil. plastic as well as woven repair tape for use with woven plastic.

The practice of trellising indeterminate tomatoes in a hoop house allows vines to grow vertically. These vertical vines help keep the fruit cooler and up off the ground. Trellising makes vines easier to manage and harvest for an entire growing season while keeping the house’s pest and disease pressure to a minimum.
For trellising vining crops like tomatoes, we recommend using a ⅛”-¼” cable, hooks, and plant support vine clips. Check out Building Trellis for Indeterminate Tomatoes for more details on the installation and best practices.
