Wolfgang Van Halen is the son of two major celebrities: Golden Globe Award-winning actress Valerie Bertinelli and rock legend Eddie Van Halen, who passed away in 2020 after a long battle with throat cancer. When Wolfgang tied the knot with Andraia Allsop on October 15, 2023, at their home in Los Angeles, their wedding was an opportunity to commemorate their love for one another and the other special people in their lives—especially Wolfgang’s parents. “Our goals was just to bring all of our closest family and friends together,” Allsop recalls to People.
During the ceremony, Wolfgang made sure his father was there in spirit. To kick off the service, which took place in the couple’s living room, Wolfgang walked down the aisle with his mother by his side. As he made his way to the altar, a song called “316” that Eddie wrote just for his son played. “It [was] a nice way to include my dad,” Wolfgang says. Wolfgang and Allsop also reserved an empty chair for Eddie to make sure the artist could be there in spirit. “Ed would’ve been absolutely beaming and so, so proud of the man Wolfie has become and is becoming and so happy that he has found Andraia, someone who really understands Wolfie, who he is, and who he wants to be and supports him wholeheartedly,” Bertinelli explains.
The couple also displayed framed photos of the rock star—plus pictures of other loved ones both alive and deceased—on their bookshelves. “We’ve lost some important family members on both sides, so it’s important to include them and have them be a part of the ceremony that we wish they were here for,” Wolfgang shares. As another nod to Eddie, Allsop made charms with a picture of Wolfgang and his father to clip on boutonnières, corsages, or bouquets as a way to “think of him throughout the day,” the bride says.
Having the honor to escort her son, the frontman of Mammoth WVH, and watch him marry his person was a rewarding experience for Bertinelli. “It brings me such a nice sense of peace knowing Wolfie and Andraia have each other for the rest of their lives,” she shares with the outlet. “They really ‘get’ one another: Their humor is very similar, they like similar things, they know how to give each other space, and they’re just so comfortable together.”
Allsop also chose to honor family during the ceremony: The bride asked both of her grandmothers to serve as the flower girls. It was a full-circle moment, since Allsop was the flower girl in her grandmother’s wedding in the early ‘90s. “I thought it would be fitting and just a nice little moment to have my mom’s mom and my dad’s mom be our flower girls,” she says.
After Wolfgang and Allsop traded vows, the newlyweds joined their crew at a reception in their backyard. They decorated the site with a display of stained-glass windows (the same backdrop that Lady Gaga used in one of her performances), string lights, and mauve-colored flowers, the outlet reports. Guests noshed on an Italian-inspired menu that included dishes, such as tortellini soup, which was a staple in Bertinelli’s household growing up. They finished their meal with tiramisu and a buttercream cake.
The newlyweds spent the rest of the night dancing to music that their DJ played. Although a good soundtrack was an important part of the festivities, Wolfgang made a deliberate decision not to put on a performance. “I think people's first impression is like, 'Oh, are you going to play something?’” he says. “And it's like, ‘No, that's the last thing I want to do.’ I'm going on tour in 11 days. I don't want to. The last thing I want to think about is playing anything."
