Top 10 hotels in Bangkok

Discover the top hotels in Bangkok, handpicked by local expert Meagan Drillinger.
Meagan Drillinger
23 December 2024

A visit to Bangkok will have your senses firing on overdrive. It’s a city where the savoury scent of street food wafts through the air, where the pulsing energy is non-stop and the dizzying array of hotels is downright spectacular. Bangkok’s hotels are among the very best in the world. I’ve been fortunate to visit this capital city more times than I can count, which has given me the luxury of experiencing many of its most fabulous hotels first-hand. From riverfront retreats to sleek city oases, each place I’ve stayed offers its take on luxury and relaxation, all while keeping travellers in the heart of Bangkok’s colourful chaos. So, if you’re wondering where to hang your hat during your next visit to this electric city, here are my top picks for the best hotels in Bangkok.

1.

Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok

Address:

48 Oriental Avenue

Price:

C$ 600-C$ 11,663/night

The Mandarin Oriental Bangkok isn’t just the city’s oldest hotel – it’s a Thailand classic. Every morning here, I find myself drifting to The Verandah for breakfast, for the fabulous spread and that prime perch on the Chao Phraya River.

Let’s talk rooms – my favourite is the Jim Thompson Suite. This corner suite has swoon-worthy views of the river and the city’s glittering skyline, all wrapped up in colourful Thai silks and luxe touches that channel Thompson’s iconic style.

Staying here feels like living in a piece of Bangkok’s history, where every detail is curated yet casually cool. It’s a spot that has me falling a little harder for Bangkok each time.

2.

Capella Bangkok

Address:

300/2 Charoenkrung Road

Price:

C$ 787-C$ 4,202/night

Capella Bangkok brings a fresh edge to riverside luxury hotels in Bangkok, but the hotel’s Stella Bar is what captured my heart. With its sumptuous Art Deco design and opulent white peacock sculpture, Stella is pure drama in the best possible way. Sitting here feels like stepping into the glitz of the 1920s – the cocktails are as bold as the décor, and each sip comes with serious style points.

Then there are the Verandah Suites, which have raised the bar for me in terms of what to expect from luxury hotel stays. These suites come with a private plunge pool on the terrace, overlooking the legendary Chao Phraya River.

Picture a sunset dip, city lights twinkling in the distance and the gentle buzz of Bangkok below – that’s exactly what you’ll get with a stay at Capella Bangkok.

3.

Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok

Address:

991/ 9 Rama 1 Road

Price:

C$ 41-C$ 14,187/night

The Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok is my go-to urban oasis whenever I’m in town. Hidden amid serene gardens and lagoon-like pools, it’s easy to forget you’re in the city’s pulsing heart here. The location is a dream, just a short walk to the Jim Thompson House Museum for a dose of Thai art and textile history, and minutes from the green sanctuary of Lumphini Park.

What truly won me over, though, is that this is one of the best hotels in Bangkok for families. The Family Suites have themed décor that delights kids without sacrificing style. It’s the little touches that make it effortless for both parents and young explorers to unwind, and it makes travelling with kids feel like less of a juggling act.

Siam Kempinski has a knack for balancing elegance with fun, and it’s exactly the kind of place where everyone can find their own little slice of paradise.

4.

Como Metropolitan Bangkok

Address:

27 South Sathorn Road

Price:

C$ 110-C$ 1,405/night

As one of the best hotels in Bangkok, the COMO Metropolitan Bangkok hits all the right notes for a chic urban escape. But it’s the pool that has me coming back every time. A sleek, oasis-like retreat, it’s set just right to make you feel like you’ve escaped the city’s buzz – perfect for a late afternoon dip before heading out into Bangkok’s lively streets.

And then there’s Nahm, the hotel’s award-winning Thai restaurant, which I always make a point to visit when I’m in town. Nahm dishes out bold, authentic flavours that take Thai cuisine to new heights – it’s no wonder it’s a regular on Asia’s top restaurant lists. Tip: the stir-fried wagyu beef is sensational, as is the river prawn tossed in samphire sauce.

5.

The Sukhothai Bangkok

Address:

13/3 South Sathorn Road

Price:

C$ 41-C$ 5,567/night

When it comes to the best hotels in Bangkok, The Sukhothai Bangkok steps out of the fray and into a serene, Thai-inspired world of its own. This gem of a hotel effortlessly weaves traditional Thai design with a chic, understated vibe.

Wandering through the courtyard, past lotus ponds and intricate woodwork, it’s easy to feel as if you’ve discovered a hidden side of Bangkok, or travelled back in time.

My real love, though, is The Sukhothai Spa. It’s not just a spa – it’s a full-on sanctuary. The hammam facilities are perfect for a deep, muscle-melting unwind, while the infinity pool beckons for a refreshing dip with a cityscape backdrop. Every corner of The Sukhothai feels curated with care, making it the ideal spot to recharge after a hectic day in the city.

6.

Riva Arun Bangkok

Address:

392/25-26 Maharaj Road

Price:

C$ 105-C$ 567/night

Riva Arun Bangkok is one of those hidden gems that nails the boutique vibe without trying too hard. Small, intimate and perfectly positioned along the Chao Phraya River, it’s my go-to when I want to feel like I have Bangkok all to myself.

The real showstopper here is Above Riva, the rooftop restaurant. If you’re looking for the best hotels in Bangkok with a view, you’ve come to the right place. Picture this: a sunset view with Wat Arun glowing in the distance, cocktail in hand and an array of delicious Thai dishes.

But the charm of Riva Arun goes beyond the spellbinding vistas – it’s the kind of place where you feel like a valued guest rather than a number. Plus, for the price, it’s a steal given the unbeatable location and first-class service.

7.

Muu Bangkok Hotel

Address:

88/333 Sukhumvit Soi 55

Price:

C$ 102-C$ 452/night

MUU Bangkok feels effortlessly cool from the moment you step inside. It’s all about modern design with a splash of flair here – think minimalist lines, sleek interiors and just the right amount of colour to keep things interesting.

You’ll usually find me at the pool. Set right in the heart of the hotel, it’s not just for swimming; it’s a real vibe. Whether you’re doing laps or lounging poolside with a cocktail, the contemporary design and lush surroundings make it feel like your own personal oasis in the middle of the city.

The MUU exudes a wonderfully relaxed yet sophisticated energy. From the guestrooms to the service, everything feels tailored to perfection. If you're looking for a chic, quiet retreat that still keeps you close to Bangkok’s buzz, MUU is a must.

8.

137 Pillars Residences Bangkok

Address:

59/1 Sukhumvit Soi 39

Price:

C$ 136-C$ 929/night

137 Pillars Bangkok Suites & Residences is where modern sophistication meets home-away-from-home vibes. The rooftop pool here is a private slice of heaven with panoramic views of the city, which is reason enough to call this one of the best hotels in Bangkok.

Whether you’re lounging with a cocktail or swimming laps under the Bangkok sky, it’s hard not to feel like royalty here. But let’s talk about those marble bathrooms in the guestrooms for a moment.

They’re next-level luxury that will make you want to spend an extra half hour just soaking in the opulence. The huge tubs give you everything you need to feel pampered without the fuss. Add in sleek finishes and oversized rain showers, and suddenly “getting ready” feels like a spa retreat.

9.

Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort

Address:

257/1-3 Charoennakorn Road

Price:

C$ 124-C$ 2,451/night

Anantara Riverside Resort feels like a secret spot in the heart of Bangkok, tucked away along the Chao Phraya River. The moment I step onto the property, it’s like being transported into another world – one of tropical greenery, calming river views and a genuine escape from the city’s hustle.

What sets this place apart for me is the wide range of dining options. Whether I’m in the mood for rustic Italian at Brio or craving refined fare at Riverside Terrace, Anantara has all moods covered.

The hotel’s ability to offer a truly relaxing, resort-like experience while still keeping you close to Bangkok’s frenetic energy is what makes Anantara Riverside feel like the best of both worlds. I recommend it as a final stop before a long flight home as it gives that resort vibe, perfect for unwinding before a taxing journey.

10.

Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queens Park

Address:

199 Sukhumvit Soi 22, Klong Ton, Klong Toey

Price:

C$ 213-C$ 946/night

The Marriott Marquis Bangkok Queen's Park is the kind of hotel known for its approachable luxury and sky-high views. While you can probably guess that I love posting up at the outdoor pool, the real magic happens at the rooftop bar.

With panoramic views of the city skyline, it’s the ideal place to sip a cocktail while watching the sunset behind Bangkok’s buzzing streets. Don't miss a meal at Pagoda Chinese Restaurant, which serves award-winning Cantonese cuisine.

The hotel’s central location makes it easy to dive into the city’s culture, but honestly, with amenities like these, it’s tempting to just stay in and indulge. From the expansive spa to the array of dining options, Marriott Marquis hits all the right notes.

  • When you visit Bangkok, you'll likely fly into Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand's largest international airport. There are various transportation options from Suvarnabhumi Airport to the city center, but if you prefer to stay close to the airport, a good choice might be the Miracle Transit Hotel, located 10 minutes from the airport, or the Novotel Hotel Suvarnabhumi Airport, located one mile from the airport.
