Located on Billings’ far southwest end, Homewood Suites is the place to stay for easy access to all that Billings offers. It’s also ideal if you want to get on the road to Yellowstone National Park. Close to I-90 and the nature-filled south of the city, it’s one of the best hotels in Billings for location.

Homewood Suites is also a great place to book for a longer stay. Made up solely of suites, each one includes a fully equipped kitchen, with a dishwasher, stove, and everything you need for those nights when you’re ready to pop a pizza in the oven and relax.

That’s not the only thing that makes this hotel so convenient. Complimentary hot breakfast and free light meals and drinks Monday through Thursday evenings make this spot a no-brainer. Toss in the gym, the BBQ grills, and the firepit, and you’ve got a top Montana getaway.

One of the newest and best hotels in Billings, avid hotels Billings West is also on the city’s southwest end, across the street from the largest indoor waterpark in Montana. If you’ve got kids, this hotel is likely to get their vote. It’s also close to the Billings Logan International airport (BIL) and all the outdoor adventures to be had on the Yellowstone River.

The guestrooms are simple and minimalist, and everything is clean and cozy. I particularly appreciate the modern touches, like the bright pops of colour found in everything from the curtains to the coat hooks, which add some refreshing personality.

You won’t find champagne-and-caviar treatment here, but what you will find are squeaky-clean guestrooms, super-friendly staff, a great complimentary breakfast spread, and easy access to family-friendly attractions, like ZooMontana.

The Northern Hotel dates back to 1904, making it one of the oldest hotels in Billings. Staying here you get a real sense of the city’s history, and the property is a short walk from the Yellowstone Art Museum, Montana Brewing Company, and the Western Heritage Center.

Inside, the hotel is anything but dated. It’s totally eclectic, making this one of the best hotels in Billings for design lovers. A retro-style diner (Bernie’s) sits steps from a cowhide-and-fireplace-lined lobby and a fine-dining, white-tablecloth restaurant (TEN). The guestrooms are the most traditional thing about the hotel, with light touches of Western romanticism.

You’ve got to stay to understand how it all works. If you do, make sure to check out their “gift shop”, aka the Northern Boutique, which sells locally made goods. If you’re looking for one of the most unique hotels in Billings, there’s no competition.

There’s something about TownePlace Suites that’s just so wonderfully cozy. The blazing firepit under the wooden pergola, the warm autumnal tones, the full kitchens capable of handling spaghetti nights—this is your expected upscale Marriott, but it’s a particularly inviting one.

One of the best hotels in Billings, I loved how peacefully quiet the hotel was, and it has a great ambiance, especially in the outdoor spaces. This is another top extended stay option in Billings, with everything from bright studios to two-bedroom suites.

All your needs are covered here: free parking, free breakfast, a nice gym and pool, and a 24/7 convenience store. The staff are also great at helping you plan your local adventures, from visiting Moss Mansion to Pictograph Cave State Park, which is a huge bonus in my book.

Hilltop Inn offers serious bang for your buck, making this one of the best hotels in Billings for those travelling on a budget. While there’s nothing ritzy here, you’ve got everything you need, from a great free breakfast and comfy beds to in-room refrigerators and a lobby fireplace.

If you’re looking to save a dime without sacrificing a good night’s sleep, this is the place to book. Another bonus is the central location, just a few minutes from the airport.

Within walking distance of Montana State University–Billings’ pretty tree-lined campus, it’s close to spots like the Yellowstone County Museum and all the highlights of downtown. It’s sort of a jack-of-all-trades spot, and you’re also within view of the scenic Rimrocks. If you’re into hiking, take a short gander along Swords Rimrock Park.

Another newish addition to the top-rated hotels in Billings, Hilton Garden Inn adds fresh style to Billings’ west end. Unlike most hotels, you might be surprised how much time you spend in the common areas, as they’re all so lovely—from the fire-lined outdoor patio and sharply appointed on-site restaurant to the bright breakfast buffet.

I love that the rooms also offer that touch of Hilton class, with Garden Sleep System™ beds, great lighting, and refrigerators and microwaves. If you stay here, you probably won’t spend much time in your room.

Guests here are the type that are always on the go, checking out local highlights like the Tippet Rise Art Center, which doubles as a working ranch, or hitting outdoor spots like the new Skyline Trail. Riverfront Park, on the Yellowstone River, is a stone’s throw from here too.

If you want to go retro—80s-style retro, that is—check out the C’Mon Inn Billings. Its claim to fame is its atrium, where waterfalls, a koi pond, and “gardens” fill the giant, cathedral-tiered space. It feels a little kitschy, but I can confirm it’s definitely a vibe.

As for the rooms, nab a suite with a fireplace and a balcony (and those vaulted ceilings), and you’ll be set. Outside your personal digs, there’s also a hot tub, an on-site arcade, and a sizable breakfast station to fuel up your day. You might need it—nearby you’ll find Riverfront Park and Lake Josephine, great spots for hiking, watching local wildlife, and enjoying a picnic.

If that’s not your speed, even closer is Yellowstone Cellars & Winery, one of my favourite spots for music, ambiance, and the occasional grape stomp.

This is not your grandma’s Holiday Inn. Holiday Inn Express & Suites Billings West has made a name for itself as one of the best hotels in Billings, especially for families. I can’t think of many other hotels that offer “kids suites” with bunk-bed rooms set apart from mom and dad. I’ve been half-tempted to book one for myself.

But even for solo and not-so-solo travellers, this spot delights—think clean, classic, well-appointed rooms with large windows, great light, and upscale amenities. There’s a lovely breakfast bar (hello, cinnamon rolls) and a nice pool and gym. This last one’s probably just me, but I love that it’s all purple. Here, you’re also right off I-90 for all those Yellowstone County adventures.

When it comes to extended stays, the Ledgestone is easily one of the best hotels in Billings. All studios with kitchenettes, you’ll probably be surprised at the size of the rooms—they’re seriously spacious, with everything from full refrigerators, stovetops, and cookware to high-end bedding and more.

There aren’t many frills here, but if you’re anything like me, you’re down for no-frills if it means clean and quiet—plus your own fully stocked kitchen.

Another bonus to the Ledgestone is its location. From here, it’s super easy to hop on I-90 or Highway 90, splitting the difference in all directions. Cyclists and anglers can head south to Blue Creek, while adventurers can road-trip further afield to Custer National Forest and the Crow Reservation.

Ever since Hampton Inn introduced their to-go breakfasts, I’ve been a fan: any hotel that understands I need road snacks is good in my book.

This spot brings the best of the brand, with spacious rooms and suites, an excellent and uncrowded breakfast area, a hot tub for relaxing, and a pool. I also really like the huge desks in the suites, which make remote working a breeze.

This is another one of the best hotels in Billings that’s just off I-90, putting you right in the thick of things. From here, it’s two and a half hours to the North Entrance of Yellowstone National Park, two hours to Bozeman, and just 40 minutes to the surprisingly cool Pompeys Pillar National Monument. Say hello to Lewis and Clark for me when you get there.
