Puerto Rican Theme Cake

Three tier cake for Hurricane Fund Raiser. Base tier: chocolate, Middle: Coconut Cream, Top: Lemon. Buttercream icing with fondant and gum paste artifacts. El Morro guard tower was made with rice crispy treat covered in fondant.

My that's a lot of different things incorporated into one cake - but you managed to do it so well :)   It's too bad your close-ups didn't post.

Thank you kakeladi.  I am 50% Puerto Rican by marriage and intentionally, this cake was all about the up close and detail.  As you probably know, most of the time cake decorators don't have the opportunity to be at the event where their cake is served, however, this was a fund raiser and I was asked to attend, cut and serve the cake.  What amazed me was how many people came up to have their picture taken with the cake.

If you look close you'll see that the cake has representations from all of Puerto Rico, including:  El Morro, Old San Juan, the flor de mana (state flower), the coqui and the cuatro.  The top tier had the sun and the fishing boats that are common on the island of vieques.  It was so much fun to see people point at little details like the cobble stone walk ways or the stone walls of El Morro.
