Plants in University Life, World Adventures, and Other Expansion Packs

This Sims 3 Guide was originally written for the PC and Mac versions of the game, but also will help owners of the console versions - PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Please remember some info or numbers may have changed.

This Plant List includes growth times, values and notes for obtaining every type of plant in the Sims 3 and the Sims 3's World Adventures expansion pack, Supernatural Expansion, and University Life Expansion, the three which currently provide the most additions to the game's plant types. The list also goes a long way toward helping Xbox 360 and PS3 console owners of the Sims 3. Look to the bottom of the list for information on finding the new plants in the travel destinations included in the expansion.

The requirements for what you can plant are simple. At level 1, you can only plant common plants. Sims can plant Uncommons at level 5. Rare and Special plants are plantable at level 7. The special gardening opportunities require your Sim to be in Sunset Valley or Riverview and be at least level 9 before they will trigger.

Base Growth times are included to show the effects of powerful fertilizer. Check the Fertilizer Guide for information on what fertilizer does and doesn't do in the game.

Harvest Value is for one harvestable of that type. Plants can give anywhere from 1-5 produce depending on the variety. The formula is simple. Perfect quality plants sell for quadruple the value of a normal specimen.

Plants New to The Sims 3 via Expansions

World Adventures Plants

Champs Les Sims, France is the single best place to head to find the new plants in World Adventures. One trip there and you'll have all of them except the cherry tree. Cherimola and Renoit grapes can be purchased at the general store. Look to the house along the dirt road up the river from the base camp to find two other varieties. The rare grapes can be found from the special vendor at VISA level 3. They can also be found on the little island in the river. You can get there by using Zeneport, cheating or by going through the tomb located in the image below. It's quite a big one, but you can also find some valuable collectibles on the island and find plenty of treasure along the way. Smashing the rocks requires Pangu's Axe, which is only obtainable in China. If you're out to get this I have to recommend Martial Arts as the easiest way short of cheating, because a single trip to China may not be enough to get the axe but it's plenty of time to grab a skill book or training dummy for use in between trips.

The entrance to the little island in france in the Sims 3 World adventures

You can find other countries' rare plants in the garden of the house in the shot below. Pomelos, Plums and Pomegranates can all be picked here. Thanks to Pam Marsden for this helpful map which saves me the time describing how to find this house!

House with pomegranates plums and pomelos in the Sims 3 World Adventures' france.

The next place I'd like to mention is Shang Simla, China. A trip here to learn Martial Arts and picking up cherries is all you need to do to get yourself access to all the new plants in World Adventures. The marketplace here sells Plums and Pomelos, while Cherries and Pomelos can be harvested wild from Han's Orchard.

Al Simhara, Egypt is the last place to look for the new plants. The first two are so good you'll likely only be interested in harvesting here if you're already travelling there. Pomegranates and Cherries are sold at the general goods vendor, while Pomelos and Pomegranates are harvested wild across the river at the farm to the Sphinx's left.

The Sims 3 Late Night Plants

The Sims 3 Late Night only adds one new type of plant to the game: The Plasma Fruit Plant. Plasma fruit are important to Vampires, as they serve as a way to satisfy their thirst for plasma. They require level 7 gardening to plant, as they are of the special variety. Several Plasma Fruit are given to a Sim who has recently turned to a vampire. If they're a gardener, they can plant them at gardening level 7. Plasma Fruit can also be purchased in the supermarket in town. They can be used in recipes and for Nectar Making. You may also consider stocking a bar with them to make Plasma Fruit mixed drinks. Plasma Fruit can satisfy a Vampire Sim's need to feed, but they won't get a good moodlet unless they're Vegetarians. Using Plasma Fruit in Nectar or Drinks from Mixology will give Vampires better moodlets.

You can find the new seeds in Bridgeport's Butterfly Pavilion Dome. The seeds will glow red, and are worth about $50 a pop, so should be picked up even if you aren't interested in planting them.

The Sims 3 Pets and Showtime

These expansions bring one plant each. Pets brings the uncommon Carrot, and Showtime the Banana Tree. Bananas offer the single highest Gardening skill experience boost when planted, and are the easiest way to level from 7-10 Gardening.

The Sims 3 Supernatural

The Sims 3 Supernatural Plants

Supernatural is similar to World Adventures in bringing a lot more plants to the Gardening skill. The following are added to the game. Each can be found out in the world, in seed form, and randomly available at the new Alchemy consignment shop in town.

Common: Mandrake, Porcinis, Red Toadstools, Red Valerian Root, White Caps, Wolfsbane
Uncommon: Mycenas, Spotlight Mushrooms
Rare: Ghost Chili, Glow Orbs, Truffles

The Sims 3 University Life

Herbs and Coffee Beans in The Sims 3 University Life

The Sims 3 University Life adds Coffee Beans and Herbs which can be planted and harvested with Gardening just like other plants. The plants and their growth times are listed in the master list above, but here we will discuss the special effects of these new plant additions.

Eating these raw with a normal plant will give you an hour buff, cooking it in food will give a 5 hour buff, drinking 3 hours, and inhaling from the bonfire 2 hours. Higher quality plants give longer boosts, multiplying the duration by up to 2.5 for Perfect, while poor-quality plants will give less.

Upon ingesting these plants, there is a chance for Nausea - giving no positive effect, only making a Sim sick. Plant Quality affects this chance.

UL Plant Effects

Here is a list of all new Herbs and Coffee Beans and their effects:

University Life Herbs

Basil - Get 10% more from Opportunities, 20% better promotion bonuses, and 5% faster career gains
Bumbleleaf - Makes a Sim immune to fire and won't get caught tagging walls (street art) or cheating on tests
Buzzberry - 15% faster Athletic Skill gains
Chamomile - Gain influence with social groups 15% faster
Cinnamon - increases romantic interaction success, and cooking it in a group meal will allow cinnamon kisses and woohoo interactions
Ginseng - Gives a Sim a buzz so they will not crash when energy is low.
Greenleaf - Causes Sims to lose weight 20% faster
Lavender - Regenerate energy 10% faster when sleeping, may reduce energy drop rate
Licorice - Makes hunger motive decay 30% slower.
Peppermint - Tastes great, low chance of nausea
Sweetgrass - Gets rid of Buzz Crash moodlet after coffee and energy drinks, low rate of nausea
Wonderpetal - Makes Sims study 10% faster, increases University performance

University Life Coffee Beans

Cortado Bean - Reduces Bladder need decay
Kona Bean - Gives Sims Energy, no crash
Maui Bean - Gives Sims Energy, no crash
Midnight Bean - Boosts success playing games
Red Berry Bean - Slows Hygeine decay

Your list does not seem to have any of the beans or herbs that came with University Life on it.

I'm sorry I didn't get to them in a timely manner.. I've slowed down a bit lately. The last year has been pretty crazy for me. I'm returning to update the guide before Summer hits but taking a break from things to enjoy life for now.

thanks so much for the list, but I did notice that you left pumpkins off. Any reason why?, and are there any other plants that were left off? I'm trying to grow everything I can.

Nobody seems to mention that you can get to the island in France by swimming. Usually, there are rocks on the shore by the wrecked boat. I tell me sim to pick them up, them go swimming. Once in the water, they can be given orders to pick up the rocks on the island, then catch the bugs, harvest the grapes and excavate the relics. It's a great relic place, so it's worth the swim and a lot quicker than zenoporting.

Yes!! I was literally Just about to come back to this site and post a comment about that! I've got a fairy Sim whose sole income will be farming/nectar making and I really didn't want to have her learn Martial Arts just to Zeneport there. So I tried swimming there instead and it worked perfectly! You just have to have the Sim cross the bridge and go down to the water's edge near the island, they'll wade right in, have them swim up to the island and then just have them climb out and snag those tasty rare grapes! I'm glad I wasn't the only one who figured it out! ;)

I find a lot of special seed at the Captains Refuge on Sims 3 Pets for the PS3...... One thing you should add to the chart, is what level of gardening you have to be before you can plant them. That would be a nice helper. =)

Are you going to add the plants from ITF? Or the ones from the store? I made a google doc with all the harvestables (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ByO8u9XPKFyOe2wfW-BtCIE07Bmhofu3DuikUgf4mJk/edit#gid=0). All that's missing is the kelp from Island Paradise, because I don't think that is plantable on a normal lot. I don't know if there is any way to rise the quality of the kelp, because of that.

I have too little time left before the next project to update everything here, but I turned your document into a link so others can see it. I am trying new methods to help me keep everything up to date with Sims 4 coverage. Better checklists of pages that will grow with each EP, and I'm considering adding store content with that one.

Admin:
Certain seeds only unlock after you level up in the gardening skill. All unlock by level 7 so try levelling up your Sim.

That chart indicates that there's absolutely no point whatsoever in fertilizing 26 types of plants, since they already grow in 4 days.

And another 7 that can have 1 day decreased with perfect life fruit, and lesser fertilizer may not make a difference for them too.

My new rule of thumb will be to not bother fertilizing any but the 7+ day plants: all grapes, all trees except apple, all Special plants, Garlic, Bell Pepper, Onion, Potato and Watermelon.
