Athletics Champions 2022!!
Before the pandemic Chesterfield boys had seen themselves promoted into Division One for Sefton Schools. This in itself was an amazing achievement, as we would have the experience of competing at the highest level against some outstanding schools of boys.
After 3-4 years of hard work and a final push over the last 3 months, Chesterfield went into the Sefton Athletics last Monday at Wavertree Sports Park with lots of confidence, knowing that we had a hardworking and dedicated group. Every single competitor in the boy’s squad worked together as a team, as they had throughout training, treating the event on the day as if it was just another day at training.
There were some outstanding performances that cannot go without a mention;
Aiden Garrigan Year 10 winning 100m, 800m and 4x100m relay
Adam Byrne Jumping 1.77 in the high jump
Henry Cliffe winning the 200m and 400m by a great distance
Year 7 4x100m relay
Owen Atkins 1500m win
Josh Cleary shot put win
Callum Moffatt 1500m win
Curtis Capper 100m win and many more.
All this hard work and fine-tuning meant that every single athlete performed to the best of their ability of the day.
The results for each year group whereas follows:
Year 7 finished 2nd overall
Year 8 finished 2nd overall
Year 9 finished 1st
Year 10 finished 1st with the highest points total that officials have seen in years.
These totals combined meant that Chesterfield boys won the overall Sefton Boys Athletics Shield comfortably.
As a school and department, this is one of the most remarkable achievements in recent times and we look forward to building on this next year.
Chesterfield aren’t here to take part…… we are here to take over!!
