What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2024)?

Never seen these before:

And remember during the saffron challenge, I said I was surprised to learn that Amish cuisine calls for regular use of saffron:

That was at the Amish dry goods store today.

$4.39 for 13oz. Have to enlarge the pic to see it.

Edit: I like the flavor these have. Even when using onions I still sometimes use these.

We went to a grocery store that Craig had been to once a couple of years ago to look around when they first opened local to us. It's a small local chain with several stores. They always have good specials, but we don't shop at because they didn't have carts for disabled people to ride in while shopping, which I need. I dropped Craig off today because there were 2 specials too good to pass up. Rack of lamb from New Zealand for $13.99 a pound and pork belly for $2.99 a pound. Well, they have carts now so I went in.

We're going to shop there regularly now. Produce was really nice and huge selection. They have a nice cheese selection. Huge selection of beef, pork, lamb, chicken, goat cuts. I don't think there is a cut they don't have. They even had frozen blood products and beef tallow.

We came home with 2 frenched rack of lambs, a piece of pork belly big enough for a small porchetta, some farmer's cheese, jars of hot and mild BBQ sauce that is a favorite of ours and hard to find, made in Florida, small batch, and 3 jars of Cholula salsa, green, original red and smoked chipotle. Never tried that brand, but Craig likes their hot sauce so...
