Wollman Rink

ACTIVITY: Time's Running Out to Skate Free at Wollman Rink!

Dates: Offer Ends 3/12

There are just a few weeks left to take advantage of the free access to the ice that Wollman Rink offers through Culture Pass each skate season! Two- and four-person passes are available through March 12th, and will be followed by three free-to-all Community Days from the 13-15th (no pass required).

 

Brooklyn Museum

 

EXHIBITION: Break the Mold at the Brooklyn Museum

Dates: Just Opened!

The Brooklyn Museum’s collection has always championed artists and artworks that catalyze imaginative storytelling and brave conversations. As the museum marks its 200th anniversary, the new show Breaking the Mold: Brooklyn Museum at 200, packed with longtime favorites and brand-new standouts, will celebrate this unique legacy while exploring the collection’s rich history and future evolution.

 

Pregones

 

PERFORMANCE: Have a Musical March at Teatro Pregones

Date: 3/1, 3/8, 3/15, 3/22, & 3/29

Pregones/PRTT is bringing the beat back with its annual March Is Music concert series this month! Live concerts by world-class Latin, jazz, fusion, and classical artists will take place throughout March at Pregones Theater in The Bronx, a.k.a. The Borough of Music (“El condado de la música”). Culture Passes are available for performances by Yámbawa, Sol Carbone, the Zaccai Curtis Quintet, and more!

 

Grand Pistachio

 

NEW VENUE: Peel Back Layers of History with Grand Pistachio

Date: 3/15

Brooklyn-based Grand Pistachio, the newest addition to the Culture Pass partner network, creates original theater with puppets for school and family audiences. Join them at Brooklyn College's Tow Center for the Performing Arts this month for Layer the Walls, a show that tells the incredible stories held within the forty layers of wallpaper clinging to the walls of a Lower East Side tenement. Recommended for ages 9-17+.

 

Poster House

 

EXHIBITION: Check Out Two New Shows at Poster House

Date: Opening 3/13

Visitors to Poster House this month will find not one but two new exhibitions to explore! Fallout: Atoms for War & Peace chronicles the global development of the nuclear industry, for peaceful and offensive means. Puerto Rico in Print: The Posters of Lorenzo Homar presents the work of a pioneering printmaker, poster designer, calligrapher, painter, illustrator, caricaturist, and costume and theatrical set designer.

 

Japan Society

 

EXHIBITION: Celebrate Rarely Seen Artworks at the Japan Society

Date: Opening 3/13

Explore the auspicious theme of kotobuki, or “celebration,” at the Japan Society through an inspired selection of paintings, calligraphy, surimono, textiles, ceramics, and baskets. Kotobuki: Auspicious Celebrations of Japanese Art from New York Private Collections offers a joyful and unique opportunity to view important but rarely displayed works dating from the 12th-21st centuries.

 

Queens Museum

 

EXHIBITION: Revisit the World's Fair at the Queens Museum

Date: Opening 3/16

Expanding on the major exhibition A Billion Dollar Dream: The 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair on its 60th Anniversary, which openedlast fall, the Queens Museum will debut two new exhibitions this month that each re-examine the legacies of different World's Fair pavilions, including those of the Philippines (Abang-guard: Makibaka) and Pakistan (Umber Majeed: J😊Y TECH). 

 

STREB

 

PERFORMANCE: Experience the Cutting Edge of Live Performance at STREB

Date: Opening 3/21

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME presents the action-packed MAVERICK SURF, a piece that has seen continued evolution thanks to Elizabeth Streb’s push to take the STREB Action Heroes to new velocities. The result is a more dynamic, more intense performance, as the Action Heroes take on gravity-defying feats with breathtaking precision. The show also features the return of some of STREB’s favorite Action Events, where bodies and physics collide in exhilarating, high-impact feats.
