Harry Potter star Oliver Phelps reveals how he ruined a couple's romantic New Year's Eve proposal in Sydney
Oliver Phelps has opened up how he ruined a couple's romantic proposal during a trip to Sydney.
The Harry Potter star, 38, revealed how the 'shameful' incident took place while he was on holiday in Australia with his wife Katy Humpage for New Year's Eve one year.
Oliver, who played George Weasley alongside his twin brother James, said they were watching the famous Sydney Harbour fireworks when a man started bothering him to move.
But Oliver said he refused to give in and firmly stood his ground, only to be left red-faced when the man proposed to his girlfriend when he finally moved out the way.
'I've had a few shameful incidents on holiday too, one New Year's Eve I was watching the fireworks on Sydney harbour with my wife, Katy,' he told The Times.

'A few minutes before the clock struck midnight a guy started to bug me for my space.
'Being stubborn I didn't want to give it up and miss out on a romantic moment, so I refused to budge, [but] eventually I moved to one side when the fireworks had finished and there was just a cloud of smoke left.
'The guy proceeded to get down on one knee and propose to his girlfriend, with not a firework left in sight — I felt terrible!'
An embarrassed Oliver admitted the awkward experience has somewhat tarnished his memory of Sydney.
However, in June 2022, Oliver and James still visited Australia again for a string of Harry Potter fan events in both Sydney and Perth.

The brothers famously portrayed the loveable Weasley twins in the film series adaptations of JK Rowling's popular wizarding franchise.
Since the popular films, the brothers have continued to work together on an array of projects and often attend Harry Potter fan events with their co-stars.
In recent years, Harry Potter author JK Rowling has become embroiled in a series of online rows over her controversial views about the transgender community.
Earlier this month, Daniel Radcliffe commented on the controversy as he said his beliefs don't have to align with the author's just because she made him a star.

The actor, 34, said he has had no direct contact with Rowling since the controversy first erupted as he voiced his support for the LGBTQ+ community.
He told The Atlantic: 'Jo, obviously Harry Potter would not have happened without her, so nothing in my life would have probably happened the way it is without that person. But that doesn't mean that you owe the things you truly believe to someone else for your entire life.'
'It makes me really sad, ultimately, because I do look at the person that I met, the times that we met, and the books that she wrote, and the world that she created, and all of that is to me so deeply empathic,' he went on.
'I will continue to support the rights of all LGBTQ people, and have no further comment than that.'

Daniel and fellow Harry Potter stars Emma Watson, 34, and Rupert Grint, 35, have all been outspoken in their support of the transgender community in light of Rowling's comments.
Rowling has faced frequent attacks for saying that trans women should not be allowed in women's spaces in a series of online posts.
Her spat with Daniel started after she commented on an article that used the phrase 'people who menstruate' instead of women, writing: 'I'm sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?'
Shortly afterwards, Daniel penned an impassioned article for an LGBTQ+ suicide prevention charity that said 'transgender women are women'.
Rowling has previously insisted that she won't forgive stars who had spoken out against her, including Daniel and his Harry Potter co-stars.
