Vikings, NFL Present "Salute To Service" This Sunday

This Sunday's game at the Metrodome between the Minnesota Vikings and the Detroit Lions will be a part of "Salute to Service" across the National Football League. There will be all kinds of military-related happenings going on at the Metrodome as a part of the game, with similar things taking place across the National Football League.

The picture that you see above is the coin that will be used for the game, which is based on a military "challenge coin." So, if you plan on going to the game and you have a challenge coin, make sure to take it with you. . .things could potentially get pretty expensive for you otherwise. (Though I doubt anyone will be enforcing that sort of thing.)

Also, if you plan on attending the game, the Vikings are asking that folks be there 15 minutes prior to kickoff, as there will be an audience participation bit leading up to the game. Keep that in mind.

The gjallarhorn will be sounded by Mrs. Betty Strohfus. She was one of the W.A.S.P.s (Women's Airforce Service Pilots) during World War II, one of only 1,074 women that held that distinction.

The Vikings' honorary captain will be Sergeant Brian Neill, a member of the 134th Brigade Support Battalion. Sergeant Neill has been a member of the 134th for 23 years, and sustained injuries while supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom while deployed with Bravo Company.

There will also be recognition of the U.S. Navy's newest submarine, christened the U.S.S. Minnesota on October 27, and an opportunity to sign the "Biggest Greeting Card In The World" for the 257th Military Police Company in Afghanistan.

Players will be wearing camouflage gloves and carrying camouflage towels for the afternoon as well.

Hopefully the Metrodome will be packed for this one. It should be a treat for everyone in attendance.
