Roy Keane couldn't help but take a jab at Joey Barton following his recent rants against women working in football.

The Manchester United legend caused his colleagues on the Stick to Football podcast to have a laughing fit after the quick-timed joke about the former Premier League star.

On the latest episode of the show that includes Gary Neville, Ian Wright, Jamie Carragher, and Jill Scott, the Irishman teamed up with the Arsenal icon to test their football knowledge against the famous Sky Sports duo.

The pair had to figure out who had a longer stint as manager between David Moyes at Everton or Emma Hayes at Chelsea. The question left Keane and Wright stumped as they didn't know how long Hayes has been at the club for but were lucky enough to call the woman herself for the answer thanks to Wright.

While they thought about the answer, Keane hilariously said: "I might ring Joey Barton, Joey will know" leaving the panel in hysterics thanks to his perfectly-timed quip.

The wisecrack from the former United captain comes after Barton's recent crusade against women working in men's football, sensationally claiming they have no authority as pundits or commentators in the men's game.

Barton, 41, specifically took aim at Arsenal great Alex Scott calling her "unqualified" to talk about men's football. He took to social media as he remarked: "Women shouldn’t be talking with any kind of authority in the men’s game," he said on social media. "Come on. Let’s be serious. It’s a completely different game. If you don’t accept that. We will always see things differently."

The former Bristol Rovers manager has been extremely active online in his controversial tirade as he picked out Mary Earps as his latest target after the England Women star named as the BBC's Sport Personality of the Year earlier this month.

The Manchester United goalkeeper became the second consecutive Lioness to win the award after Beth Mead won it in 2022 but her triumph left Barton fuming. He took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and wrote: "So the best sports person this year is… A Women Goalie.

"Lost in a couple of finals this year. Not won a sausage. So popular that Nike didn’t even sell a replica jersey before tournament. You telling me all those who jumped on that bandwagon, haven’t voted in the BBC nonsense? Good luck to Mary. Hope she makes a few quid."
