Freedivers and spear fisherman have access to the annual dive cover benefits. Static or dynamic, constant or variable weight: these plans are designed to fully cover any freediving activity, including competitions but excludes world record attempts.

Divers, divemasters and instructors who work or participate in an internship program abroad within the DAN region may apply to extend their cover benefits, subject to approval and available only to Master members. To activate this extension, an application must be submitted to DAN for approval.
 
Important: Divers, Divemasters and instructors must apply for the Master Dive Pro membership within their country of residence before departure.

Extension & Travel Insurance Requirements

• Legal & Visa Compliance: The travel insurance policy must meet the legal and visa requirements of the destination, covering work-related incidents and ensuring the diver has the correct work visa.
• Comprehensive Travel Insurance: Coverage should extend for the entire stay, including business travel and diving to the required depths, even without a dive leader’s supervision.
• Hazardous Activities Coverage: The policy must include high-risk activities such as diving, manual labour, and any other tasks insurers may classify as hazardous during work or training.
• The applicant must be medically fit to dive and must complete and submit a dive medical questionnaire form.
• DAN must be provided with work address details when working outside the country of residence. This ensures that membership benefits remain valid and are not forfeited.

By following these guidelines, divers, divemasters and instructors can continue to enjoy the comprehensive protection and support offered by DAN, no matter where their work takes them.

Divers, divemasters and instructors working or participate in an internship program outside the DAN region may apply to extend their cover benefits for up to 365 days, subject to approval and available only to Master Dive Pro members. Diving and non-diving cover may be extended upon request, and if approved, an additional fee will be charged based on the duration and destination of the trip, up to a maximum of 365 consecutive days.  For periods exceeding 365 days, divers, divemasters and instructors must join the relevant international DAN office in the region where they will be working.

Divers Alert Network (DAN) continues to support divers in response to the rabies outbreak among the Cape Fur seal populations in the Western Cape, South Africa. While it is crucial to avoid direct contact with seals that may be infected, we recognise that it may not always be possible. In the event that a DAN member is bitten by a seal, DAN will provide medical assistance, emergency transport, and cover the cost of necessary treatment. If a rabies vaccination is required following a seal bite, it will be covered under your DAN membership benefits. However, please note that the rabies vaccine will not be covered if administered as a preventative measure (prophylaxis).
 
In case of a seal bite or any diving-related emergency, it is essential to contact the DAN Emergency Hotline at +27-82-810-6010. This number provides critical support, including care coordination and evacuation assistance. It also grants access to DAN’s emergency evacuation services and treatment coverage, even for non-diving-related emergencies.
 
Please be aware that DAN benefits act as secondary coverage to your primary healthcare and travel insurance. DAN Southern Africa is not an insurance provider and does not sell medical or travel insurance. Instead, we are a non-profit organisation that provides emergency medical coverage to our members through a group insurance policy, focused on travel, medical, and diving-related emergencies. DAN Southern Africa’s primary mission is dive safety. Our efforts, from emergency assistance to safety initiatives and medical research, are dedicated to ensuring divers' well-being.
