How can loving those I teach make a difference in their lives? - If you want to influence learners for good, you should not only

love to teach; you should love each person you teach. As you show your love for those you teach, they become more open

to learning from you and more aware of their eternal worth.

Seek to understand those you teach. As you do, you will be better able to teach lessons that meet individual needs. Reach out

to each individual in your class, remembering that “the worth of souls is great in the sight of God” (D&C 18:10).

Search for ways to help new members and those who have been less active feel welcome in your class. Invite them to come,

and introduce them to other class members. Invite them to participate by asking them questions you know they can answer

and otherwise helping them feel comfortable in class.

Things you can do:

- Pray for each member of your class.

- Do all you can to know class members’

interests and needs.

- Learn class members’ names and call

them by name.

- Listen attentively to class members and

express sincere appreciation for their participation.

It’s the beginning of a new year, and perhaps that

means you are starting to teach a new class of

Primary children. It’s a time when I like to ask myself

some important questions: What challenges do

these children face? What questions do they have

about the gospel? What experiences do they have

in common?

Pages 33-34 of Teaching, No Greater Call remind us

how important this understanding is: “How much

did you really know about the individuals you were

teaching? … Although the people you teach have

many common characteristics, they come from a

wide variety of backgrounds and circumstances. No

two are exactly alike. They have different abilities,

likes, and dislikes. They have experienced different

joys and opportunities, and challenges. … As you

come to know and understand each person, you

will be better prepared to teach lessons that speak

to their individual situations.”
