Travis Grimler began work at the Echo Journal Jan. 2 of 2013 while the publication was still split in two as the Pine River Journal and Lake Country Echo. He is a full time reporter/photographer/videographer for the paper and operates primarily out of the northern stretch of the coverage area (Hackensack to Jenkins).
He covers government meetings for the Pine River-Backus School Board, Backus City Council, Pine River City Council, Jenkins City Council and Cass County special meetings. Over the years he has specialized in news coverage.
Travis grew up in and graduated from Pine River-Backus School District. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Creative Writing and a Master of Arts in English Literature. He planned on teaching English courses in a college but found himself drawn more to journalism and returned to the PineandLakes Echo Journal family where he had interned for two summers.
Travis writes primarily soft and hard news features and profiles. He also writes Grim's Tales, a column often reflecting on life, philosophy and his many hobbies (metal detecting, magnet fishing, cooking, collecting history and more). He also writes Grim's Grub, a bi-weekly recipe column with a history theme.
