Obituary
Gene William Diehl from York passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the age of 91. Born in York County on November 24, 1932, he was the son of Paul Diehl and Rosie (Markey) Diehl. Gene took great pride in his family, fulfilling roles as a husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Annis Faye (Rauhauser) Diehl, and his brothers Earl Diehl, Lester Diehl, Harold Diehl, and Clair Diehl. He is survived by his children: Kay Crumling, Alan Diehl and his wife Janet, Timothy Diehl and his wife Brenda, Floyd Diehl and his wife Deborah; Grandchildren Andrew Diehl, Tammy Cooke, Steven Diehl, Bradley Diehl, Richard Diehl, Justin Crumling, Sabrina (Diehl) Flanders, Nicole Crumling, and Jennifer Crumling; Great Grandchildren Ethan Cooke, Kaitlynn Diehl, Samantha Diehl, Osiris Diehl, Riley Burns, Kaylee Burns, Adrian Diehl, Aubrie Diehl, Aria Diehl, Olivia Flanders, Jaxon Diehl, and two foster children.
After graduating from school, Gene farmed with his parents and volunteered at local auto dealerships, working and learning his lifelong trade as a mechanic. Leading into and after his marriage, he was employed as a mechanic at several automotive dealerships, heavy equipment contractors, and freight companies within York County. He was the managing partner of the former Leader Heights Mobil Service Station and President of Diehl’s Service Center on Delta Road south of Red Lion. Gene was a mechanic’s mechanic, always helping and teaching others his love for the trade. He also enjoyed engaging with customers, discussing and finding solutions for local, national, and global issues.
In his spare time, he raised chickens, pigs, and bulls at the family home. He cherished his pet dogs and cats and planted numerous fruits and vegetables in his weedless garden. Lastly, he never hesitated to uplift any family, friend, or neighbor in need due to his amazing outlook on life.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Monday, January 15, at Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home Inc., 104 W. Main St., Dallastown, PA 17313. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday and will begin at 11:30 AM, with Rev. Tad E. Cosgrove from Saint John Lutheran Church, Mount Rose Ave., officiating. Interment will follow at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
