3.8 E-type home clutch replacement

STAR QUESTION

Q I am currently living in Dubai and have my 3.8 E-type FHC here with me for company.

I have owned it for more than 20 years, and in that time have undertaken all its mechanical maintenance.

Unfortunately, it now needs a replacement clutch – I shouldn’t complain, as it will be the first change under my ownership.

I have consulted the factory workshop manual and am horrified that it says that I will have to remove the entire engine and transmission assembly ‘through the top’ at a rather extreme angle (see image). In order to achieve this, the bonnet, cooling system and vast amounts of the interior trim need to be removed. The latter particularly upsets me as I have recently had the car retrimmed at fairly
