About this audiobook
Tessa Dare takes passion to the high seas in this steamy tale of a runaway bride and a devilishly disarming privateer.
Desperate to escape a loveless marriage and society's constraints, pampered heiress Sophia Hathaway jilts her groom, packs up her paints and sketchbook, and assumes a new identity, posing as a governess to secure passage on the Aphrodite. She wants a life of her own: unsheltered, unconventional, uninhibited. But it's one thing to sketch her most wanton fantasies, and quite another to face the dangerously handsome libertine who would steal both her virtue and her gold.
To any well-bred lady, Benedict "Gray" Grayson is trouble in snug-fitting boots. A conscienceless scoundrel who sails the seas for pleasure and profit, Gray lives for conquest—until Sophia's perception and artistry stir his heart. Suddenly he'll brave sharks, fire, storm, and sea just to keep her at his side. She's beautiful, refined, and ripe for seduction. Could this counterfeit governess be a rogue's redemption? Or will the runaway heiress's secrets destroy their only chance at love?
Contains mature themes.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I really wanted to love this book but was torn between a 3.5 and a 4. I thought it was more than okay but, can't say that I enjoyed it fully. There were parts I enjoyed and others where I was tempted to skip ahead but didn't, because linguistically, the writing was quite good. Some parts did not make sense, however, as it seemed like much ado about nothing at times and at other times I thought to myself "so that's it?". Still, I enjoyed it enough to finish it and stayed up almost the entire night to try and put a serious dent in it. The narration was good. I love Tessa Dare as a historical romance author and I think she is one of the best, as I have read several of her books. This one, however, seemed somewhat different. I think I shall have a go at the next book in the series.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The first of the trilogy is far better than this one. Why she couldn’t tell this man her identity at least halfway through the book, I’ll never know. Way too much time spent on the ship. Way too much inner turmoil about being truthful. Same mediocre narrater as the first book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Summary:Sophia Hathaway, flees her life in society and escapes frm what would be a loveless marriage. So she goes aboard the ship "Aphrodite" and gains passage from 'Gray (Benedict Grayson) who is the owner and his brother is the captain. Sopia is planning on being a governess and plans on having a life of her own. Now aboard the ship, with her sketchbook, she is in close proximity with the handsome rogue, Gray, whom tempts her with his tantalizing kissing. However there is a little hitch in this love story....Sophia has some secrets and ones that could destroy everything that Gray feels for her and she could lose everything that matters....The Hero (Benedict Grayson)Although Benedict is his first name, he goes by Gray. Gray is a reformed libertine, and attemptin to make a better life for himself and make things better for his brother (whom he has wronged in the past) and their younger sisters. Gray sails the sea for riches, and has always thought of himself now as a reformed rake...until he meets Sophia. The one woman he can't resist despite his determination not to give into temptation that Sophia is, and can he ever let he go?The Heroine (Sophia Hathaway)Sophia has a plan for her life, which has nothing to do with her family and the life that she has left behind. She wants more in her life such as passion and a unpredictable life with no rules that she has to follow. Sophia is a very talented artist and her paints are the most precious things she possesses in the world. Now on a ship she is strongly attracted to Gray, whom she yearns not only for his touch but his love...My ThoughtsSurrender of a Siren is the Second in the Goddess Trilogy by Tessa Dare. Now I think I may have read works from this author, but I don't remember which ones, and when I saw this one and the blurb, I could hardly resist picking it up even though it I have had it for a few weeks now. Surrender of a Siren suprisingly kept me intrigued throughout the whole story, and I found myself enthralled by the characters and thoroghly charmed. I found myself almost falling in love just as these characters were, the details so vivid. A Delight!!!My Favorite QuoteHe released her just as quickly, but a lilt of the rowboat pitched Sophia back into his arms."Steady there," he murmured through a small smile. "I have you" Never in her life had she felt so acutely aware. Sophia felt that delicious, enticing heat, burn through every layer of her clothing-igniting desire in her belly.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/51.5 rounded up to 2 stars. This was a very slight improvement to the first book, imo, but still not terribly good or enjoyable. Lots of drama just for the sake of it, the secrets got tedious, the heroine was a bit of a disaster (poor choices, crying frequently, tripping a lot, pretty much no life skills beyond art, poor emotional intelligence (same for the hero on that one though)). One of the steamy scenes was a bit of a standout, but generally I'm just happy to have it over. Pretty much every other Dare book is heaps better than this.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The first half of this book gets a 3 and the second half a 5, thus the 4-star rating.
Sophia Hathaway's voyage to Tortola on the Aphrodite takes up the first half, as she and our hero, Benedict "Gray" Grayson, struggle with their attraction to one another. The journey is loooong, and when the ship becomes becalmed the story does as well. I almost put the book into the DNF category.
Things pick up, however, when the action moves to another ship, and the lovebirds give in to their passion. More developments await in Tortola, and there's a clever courtroom scene where Sophia surrenders to the court and declares herself to be a pirate.
Both Sophia and Gray learn a lot about themselves and each other. The proverbial motley crew and Gray's black half-brother, Joss, contribute interesting side stories, and I'm sorry that Joss didn't get his own book.
I expect I'll move on to the final installment, where Sophia's jilted groom makes a revenge play for Gray's innocent young sister.
This is an enjoyable read, but not nearly as entertaining as Tessa Dare's Spindle Cove books. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Once again, I loved Tessa Dare's use of language. The story is a little weak. Gray was an awesome hero, but I wasn't as wild about Sophia. Her story just wasn't as believable. Still, an enjoyable read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Surrender of a Siren is the second book in the debut series carefully crafted by Tessa Dare. I’ve read and loved the first book, Goddess of the Hunt, by this author! Surrender tells the story of Sophia Hathaway whom we met in Goddess, and Gray Grayson, a ship’s owner. (and a man who is trying to change his life from being a rogue to an upstanding gentleman) In the first book, Goddess of the Hunt, Sophia has Lucy write a letter to her imaginary art tutor, Grevais. The handsome, sensual man who did more than tutor her in watercolors was a product of her imagination - as we found out at the end of Goddess. When Lucy (in Surrender) receives a letter telling her that Sophia has eloped with Grevais, she knows that something is not right! Sophia is desperate to escape what she feels, will be a duty bound, loveless marriage to Sir Toby. So, she packs up her paints, assumes a new name and pretend future job as a governess, steals money from her trust, and purchases a ticket on a ship to Tortula. She wants to be free of society’s constrains and wants to live a passion-filled life that she feels she will be more comfortable with.
Gray has recently decided to turn his life around and turn into a gentleman that his sister would be proud to introduce her to society. What timing! Here he is, trying to be the masculine version of virtuous and he falls totally in lust (and then love) with the lovely Sophia. I’ll leave the rest up to you to read!
The interaction between Gray and Sophia is outstanding! Tessa Dare is one of the best writers, I think, for crispness of dialogue and characters. The characters of Gray and Sophia, as well as the various secondary characters come alive from the pages of the book. It was like I was watching a movie as I was reading this book. The scenes played out in my mind. Oh yes, about the fact that this series is call the “Wanton Dairymaid Series”; I’ll let you discover that thread yourself! - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Ugh, her hidden identity makes this too much of a "big misunderstanding" book until the very end. By then it's too late. It also confounded me that even when he discovered she was lying he didn't insist on her telling her true story.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was decent, but it simply couldn't keep my interest. I looooved the Goddess of the Hunt, so had high hopes for this one, but no such luck.
