About this ebook
This great book comes with advice and guidance as to the best way to teach these tricks. It offers more than one method which the reader can choose depending upon their own situation. There is also advice to using treats and shows you how to not end up with a treat junkie!
This books is from the desk of Susan Day, a canine behaviourist. Susan teaches obedience, agility and puppy courses. She is a great advocate of trick training because she knows that tricks have the same effect on the dog's mind and behaviour as normal obedience but they are much more fun and when the owners are having fun their dog learns much quicker and is happier.
Susan Day
Susan is an author, canine behaviourist, and a storyteller. She lives with her family and dogs, in particular, Rocky the Border collie and Stella, the blind dog. She spends her time blogging, writing and illustrating; training and counselling dogs and being bossed around by the family cat, Speed Bump Charlie and his sidekick, Furball (see Dogs in Space). Susan travelled around the world twice before she was seven years old. It seemed only fitting that the wonderful events she experienced and the places she visited on these journeys be recorded for history. Thus, her story telling skills began. Firstly, to Rupert Bear, her lifelong companion, and then to a host of imaginary friends and finally to her pet dog once the family finally set down roots in Australia. Susan is passionate about children's literature and wants to inspire children to be better people and encourage them to follow their dreams. She runs workshops for children teaching them how to form the wonders of their imaginations into stories. Susan lives in a small country town where there are more kangaroos than people. She shares her country property with four dogs, three cats, three rescue guinea pigs and a very large fish and her patient husband. More about her adventures are reflected in Clarence the Snake from Dunolly.

Tricks Any Dog Can Do! - Susan Day
Introduction
Use treats to motivate your dog. Once your dog knows the trick and understands what you want him or her to do, start giving pats instead of treats. Mix it up a bit and keep your dog guessing – am I getting a treat this time or a pat? This will also build your dog’s motivation.
The sorts of treats you use will depend upon your dog and what it likes. If you really want your dog to learn quickly and thoroughly, use a very special treat like kabana or cheese and only use it for this type of training.
Repeat each trick about 5 times per day only. Do this several times a day if you can. Don’t over do it because your dog will become restless and will stop learning. Practise every day and you will build a great relationship with your dog.
And remember: any dog can do these tricks regardless of age or size. However, larger dogs need to do things more slowly and carefully because of their weight.
