Foreword
Finally, it’s here: the book that I never really wanted to create.
I think that sums it up, really. These poems were not only written years ago, but most of them weren’t intended to see the light.
All that there is to say is that these poems, in their range from the light and silly to the harsh and aggressive, firmly represent the past.
They are definitely a representation of who I was. Maybe one day I’ll find out who I am.

Absent Friends
There are many odes to absent friends,
So why compose another?
Some things they could not comprehend,
And others feelings smothered.
It's much more a personal thing
When friends just drift away
You sit waiting for the phone to ring
To hear their voices say:
How are you
or I'm back next week,
The heart (how clichéd) flutters.
But upon goodbye
the voice is weak
And falters, stalls and splutters.
And reason says it needn't be,
We'll all soon meet again,
But still I know that I'll miss thee,
So farewell, absent friend.
An Ordinary Man
A man once built his house of stone
And with nature thatched the roof
Lived in the attic, all alone,
Far from other men, aloof.
This man, he had a child,
And the child, unlike he,
Went out and spake with other men
In a land called Galilee
This man once went a-fishing,
And doctored to the poor
And never dreamed his words would be
A recipe for war.
This man was by his fellows broken
Beaten, left to die
Judged when one had spoken
And ordered, crucify.
He hung upon that crucifix,
With iron through his soul,
And wept; for what became of this
Was a bitter, twisted soul.
Epitaph
Take care, gentle stranger,
As you walk across this turf.
Be respectful of my body,
Entombed within this earth.
Open Prison
In a world full of shouting
Did you feel my silence?
In a world full of hatred
Did you feel the love I felt for you?
Could you see me in the distance
Through the smoke of raging fires?
Did you ever hear my voice upon the breeze?
Did you ever watch me falling
From the clouds made of my dreams?
Did you ever reach to catch me in your arms?
Did you ever see my lifeblood
Flow from the open wound?
Did you ever see me crying out in vain?
I know you never did and I could tell you never saw
Because I never saw you either in the mist.
Rushing past each other, it's easy to ignore
The silent souls around you, kept away from bliss.
Let me fill your silence,
Let me feel your love,
Let me see you in the distance,
Let me hear your voice above.
I'll stop you from falling
And help you rebuild your dreams,
I'll answer when you're calling
Stop your
