I dedicate this book to my wife, Patrice, my daughters, siblings, and late parents, Annie and Ernest Sanders, without whom this book would not be possible. Special thanks to my entire team at the MBS Fitness Lab for all of their help, support, and unconditional love. And to everyone who has worked out with us throughout the years, and for those who have joined us online at BurnAlong, I thank you for showing up. With God, all things are possible.

    Ray Lewis Foreword

Come on, Tee. Pick it up!

Man, Lew. I’m not going to the league!

This was our banter while we performed our strenuous workouts. He was right, he wasn’t in the league, but he worked out like he was. Monte would always execute and deliver. His will to challenge himself was unmatched. This is what I appreciated about him early on. We were in those workouts together, we endured that pain together and transformed not only our bodies, but our minds and spirits - together. To have a brother to do life with and walk with on a path to be better men of God is more than I could’ve ever asked for, but to also have a brother that I could connect with on a spiritual level is something I could’ve never imagined would be essential to my development.

When I met Monte in 2001, my life was at a standstill spiritually. I was a broken 25-year-old man. With the unrest in my life during this period, I was in the fight for my life. On the outside, I was adorned with many accolades; Super Bowl Champion, Defensive Player of the Year, Pro Bowler, endorsements, but on the inside, it was like someone had arrested my soul and I was walking around dead and needed resuscitation. Monte was there with me to experience the turmoil I had to face, and he’d always encourage me to rise above. We began to feed our minds. We kept each other accountable. God used Monte Sanders, or Tee as I call him, as a vessel that would guide me in the direction to ultimately break the chains that I was battling within. We evolved in ways that were foreign to me at first but as time passed, my life transformed into one that I’m forever grateful for.

Our relationship was fruitful; there was always a reciprocation of what we’d feed each other daily in our mind, body, and spirit. Traveling down a road like this, it’s imperative that you be filled with the right fuel in order to pour into your fellow brother. It is impossible to pour from an empty cup. We lived by that. The food we ate, the content we ingested, the physical work all became quintessential to the men we were becoming. That brother helped save my life.

On this journey we decided to stop using curse words. The penalty for cursing was 100 bucks for me and $5 for him. By the end of the week, I was paying out thousands of dollars and we’d donate the money to a church. After a while, this was not good enough for us because we did not feel like we were changing. True change comes when you sacrifice your comfort to become better. So, we decided to do 100 push-ups on demand when either one of us said a curse word. Things got interesting and change ensued. One day we were on our way to the Espy Awards dressed to the nines and Tee said, Lew, you said a curse word bro. Tee, I didn't say no curse word. Lew, give me my 100 push-ups! In my suit, we pulled over and I took off my jacket and did 100 push-ups on demand and that day, I changed. Tee kept me accountable and I him. We adopted this NO EXCUSES mantra. There are no excuses in life, you must finish what you start. You owe it to yourself to run through the pain, be it mental or physical, you have to work through it. If one person started a workout, we all finished it. We were brothers, we were on this road together and we never let each other down. The commitment that we made as men was to never let your comfort zone become so comfortable that you lose yourself. I could not tell the story of Ray Lewis without Monte being at the forefront of it.

Monte Sanders is a man that I love and trust with my life. There are only a few people on this earth that I have that confidence in. This book is what we lived, what we LIVE. This book will touch many and begin to transform lives so you can live a life of NO EXCUSES and keep your mind, body, and spirit in alignment so you can live a life that honors God.

    Ed Reed Foreword

Our relationship started off as a brotherhood from the beginning. When I met Tee or Monte Sanders through Ray Lewis, I was about 23 years old, fresh out of the University of Miami, and onto the Baltimore Ravens team. Instantly, Tee welcomed me to the group with Ray, and later Rohan Marley, like he had known me for years. Initially, he and I shared a strong work ethic, laser focus and a network of Kappa friends. I learned that Tee was a Kappa and that established some great camaraderie from the start. After spending more and more time with Tee, I had a desire to model the traits he exposed me to
