About Bobbie Horowitz
Special Thanks To Two Spirits Who Live On as Inspirations
I thank my incredible baby sister, the late Susan Hank, whose spirit lives with me and encourages me every day. At the age of 19 Susie was operated on for what was diagnosed as Ileitis. The illness, Crohn’s Disease, had not yet been discovered. She also learned that the blood transfusion given her during the surgery contained Hepatitis C. They had not yet learned to screen donated blood for this disease. Therefore, she lived each day aware that, at some point in her life, the Hepatitis would likely take hold of her. In spite of all she had to deal with, she managed to keep herself fit and in as good health as possible, She looked great and had a thriving career and her family, friends and former clients agree that she was a great contribution to all who knew her. Hepatitis may have taken her physically from us when she was 51 years old - but it couldn’t take away her continuing to enrich us
I also thank my late spiritual coach, Barbara Van Diest, the woman to whom I dedicated my original book on the topic of fitness past 50. Without Barbara’s tireless coaching I may never have believed I could be fit as I aged nor written any book on this topic. Barbara was beloved by many. Her TV show, It’s About You
, which emanated from Tucson, inspired thousands. This is my post on her obituary in El Monte Ca. Still with you every day, Barb. I feel you here with me too. I know it will be fine when I pass over to join you and I promise to keep living to my fullest while I’m still in this body. I know you’re here.
Special thanks to a very physically alive member of the community
I thank my son, David F. Slone Esq., for his continuing support. I was born many years before computers and he is as brilliant in the field of technology as he is in entertainment and in law. He’s loved in many entertainment communities in NYC and elsewhere and continues to promote his mom to them.
Dedication
I dedicate this book to the Fit Fabulous You!
(The True You) who will reveal him/herself as a result of your reading Fit & Fabulous From Fifty Forward!
, at whatever age you may be.
Praise for Bobbie’s Workshops
Bobbie named her workshops for the name she gave her plan to become fit when she was in her early 60s. She called her daily ‘get to do’s’ mini Qs
. The Find Your Mini-Qs workshops, that I recently attended were the first ray of hope I have found (after many attempts) in the losing weight/getting in shape battle. For the first time, no one was pushing hundreds of dollars of products I had to buy, nor solutions I couldn’t possibly find the time, or motivation, to implement. Instead, I was encouraged to find my own path and chart a course to success that I developed (with guidance, of course). For me, this meant creating a phased approach using terminology and methods that I fully understood and supported. As someone who directs shows and provides professional corporate training and consulting services, I could easily relate to the teaching methodologies being presented here. I highly recommend everyone struggling with weight issues to ‘find their Q’! It has sure helped me!
—Tom Stajmiger, Performance Director, Corporate Consultant/Trainer
"I found working with Bobbie inspiring, and I got in touch with some deep-seated patterns inside, which help me to unload a lot of the heaviness I felt. So I was able to lighten up physically as well. Finding my Q has led me to even more rewarding experiences as a lyricist. We are close to finishing a new musical called Bollywood and Vine, based on a movie of the same name: book by Edward Jordon, music by Daniel Neiden. We’ve had a great year with our family show Rapunzarella White. This month I began work on two more musicals. Check my website for updates. http://www.bozomoonproductions.com/. Take a Q from me … it’s a high ‘Q’uality way to live. Thank you, Bobbie."
—June Ospa, Playwright, Theater Coach
Bobbie is one of the most inspirational people I have met in a very long time. After taking her workshop, I not only lost thirty pounds (yay!) However, I was also inspired to write a new cabaret act. I am really excited about my life again. All those baby steps and small, short-term goals really add up to major changes. Keep up the good work, Bobbie!
—Diana LeBlanc, Singer, Legal Assistant
I have known Bobbie for a long time. She is an outstanding individual with a huge intellect. Plus, she is not afraid to think creatively! I wanted to experience her workshop to gain advice for building my own ‘sports prof’ personal brand, my sports textbook, and my sports education company … Sports Career Training LLC. Her insights and comments helped me crystallize my star and increase my own productivity. It was stimulating!
—Frank E. Cuzzi, M.B.A..ports Prof—The Complete Sports Manager
Thank you so much for your ongoing generosity and for allowing me to learn and gain from you each time I’m in your presence. I continue to learn so much from you and am constantly inspired by the incredible gifts you offer every time I’m lucky enough to be with you … My best wishes to you for another amazing and successful chapter as your new book inspires all of us to be healthy, wealthy, and wow!
—Richard Skipper, Press Representative/MC/Coach/Producer
Introduction
The star you truly are is right here!
Let it shine!
Most importantly, have faith in yourself.
You can do this! Plus, have fun doing it!
As you read this book, you’ll learn to design your own path to allow the slimmest, strongest, sexiest possible you shine out - and you’ll give your path a name that’s fun for you to say and think about.
When I was sixty, I had to drop over thirty-five pounds, handle a very high cholesterol count, a severe case of osteoarthritis and find clothing that would look good on my now enlarged frame! I’d gained weight and lost fitness between ages fifty-five and sixty. I was working intensely on a theatrical project I loved, which was excellent for me. However, I was eating and moving according to someone else’s needs rather than according to my body’s needs.
Hint: Give the path you design for yourself a name that makes you smile—or even better, giggle! I repeat this often because I’ve found that having fun is likely to keep people on track. We’ll have whole chapter on naming your path.
I call my path My Mini-Qs. Mini-Qs
stands for the minimum quantity of various activities I undertake to reach my goals of being slim, strong, and sexy. I get to do most of them daily. Some are weekly, and some are monthly. You’ll be able to follow the path you design for yourself, to peel away everything that isn’t that star you really are.
Maybe you’re saying, She calls them Mini-Qs? What—is she nuts?
Believe me, I would have thought the same thing about that name. However, if a lucky thought hadn’t come into my head—a thought that led me to choose that name for my plan—I wouldn’t have peeled away the part of me that was out of shape and not feeling well. The name helped keep me doing … drum roll …
