Why?
In My Garden
Face pressed against the screen
The evening beckoned me
Voices rising from below
Of things I should not see
I longed to be out there again
With all life meant to me
My days were full of wonder then
Of digging in the earth
Of petting fuzzy caterpillars
I was awestruck by my birth
My friends were ants and ladybugs
And fireflies in the night
They’d call to me beyond the screen
With blinking little lights
As evening turned to night time
I’d tiptoe back to bed
Then darkness passed
The sun at last!
And once more I’d be free
To join my lovely rosebuds
And all that I could be
While watching lilies on the pond
With brilliant flowers all around
And bandaids on my knees
I’d steal away from mud pies
To lie in long cool grass
And look into the deep blue sky
To talk to God and ask him why
The life outside my garden
Made so little
