Chapter One
It is strongly advised to read Part One and Part Two before starting this installment of the serial.
LIZZY WAS IN THEIR shared bedroom when Jane returned a couple of hours later, and her sister immediately came to her side to sit on her bed, putting an arm around her. Oh, Lizzy, do not cry so.
Lizzy wasn’t actively crying at the moment, but tear tracks likely still remained on her cheeks. She’d allowed herself a period of indulging in the tears, but she felt more collected now. I shall be fine. Do not fuss so.
I wish you had not left so hastily, dear sister. Mr. Darcy quickly announced it was a misunderstanding, and the dancing resumed.
I was humiliated and needed time to collect myself.
Lizzy forced a bright smile. I am unconcerned about the situation. We must focus on you. You have such happy news, and there will be a wedding to plan.
Jane gave her a soft look of censure. There shall be two weddings to plan, and I suggest we entwine them. I would be pleased to share that day with you.
What a splendid idea.
Lizzy mustered a level of feigned enthusiasm she didn’t feel. She was uncertain there would be a ceremony for her at all. Despite Darcy’s eventual handling of the situation, she remained uncertain where they stood.
He had not spoken up immediately to counter his aunt, which had her doubting once more the wisdom of their wedding and Mr. Darcy’s willingness to go through with it. Did she even want to get married? She’d been reluctant from the start, but Lizzy realized a certain enthusiasm for the idea had started to develop over the intervening days since Mr. Darcy had come to ask for her hand.
Now, everything seemed uncertain and perilous. Worst of all, Darcy had not spoken up for them.
"It was so romantic, Lizzy. I had barely been talking to Mr. Bingley for perhaps five minutes before he told me of his ardent affection for me, and
