Maps Framed Prints
The world is a massive place and when you break it down into smaller sections by making maps you can create some beautiful framed map art pieces. Maps are great for art because they can be done in so many formats. Artists and map makers have done them in color, in black and white and aerial views just to name a quick few.
David Sibley and Janet Kruskamp use maps as a backdrop for the works they create with such things as wine and hummingbirds as subjects. Jasper Johns puts a whole new twist on a map of the United States with an abstract view in his framed work of map art.
The world map done in 1689 depicting the world in four flat quarters has made a great piece of art for centuries and in when framed in gold will add character to any room. Maps made into art are a great idea for the geography classroom for reference or simply for decoration purposes. Laura Paustenbaugh gives the United States a colorful look with her patchwork rendition in her work titled simply “America”. The patchwork idea is wonderful as this is a country known as the melting pot of cultures.
American Flat is a company that produces maps of a different format by using countries on a solo basis. They have taken the shape of the country and used the names of towns and territories as the filler. Some of the countries are New Zealand, Australia, and Brazil. These are a nice piece for those that have visited or would like to visit these countries.
