Mrs. Brinkley's math classes are competing in a "Colorwar Countdown Challenge" in order to review for our upcoming math Staar test.
Students spin a random wheel to determine which review category they will be working on, which also randomly places them either on their own, with a partner or small group. Students have 10 minutes to work on the coinciding task cards. After 10 minutes, the fun starts all over as students re-spin for a new category and a new group. Once a student finishes a category AND makes a 100%, they get to fill in a space on the Colorwar Countdown Board! It's a race amongst classmates as well as a race against classes, all while promoting accuracy over speed- a little of both will ensure the win! Stuck on a question? Don't worry- each student received a list of 'life lines' : Ask Mrs. Brinkley x 2, Sneak a Peek at the Answer Sheet, Freebie, Phone a Friend and I'll Make it Right! With a little support, I'm certain we'll all master the review material.

It was the very first year for our school to have a SkillsUSA program and we had an amazing run! We had 6 state qualifiers in leadership events and half of them made it across the stage which is truly incredible. There were over 8,000 students from 6th grade to college who were competitors at this event! We also had many students qualify with their job exhibits for Culinary Arts and received many compliments and awards! Projects rated Superior received a Blue Rosette, Excellent a Red Rosette, and Very Good a White Rosette.
I couldn’t be more proud of the work that went into creating these projects and documentation, practicing speeches, and trying all of these new things. I think we all saw projects that blew our minds and have SO MANY more ideas for next year!
SkillsUSA definitely noticed the Bearkats this year! - Mrs. Gunkel

Our third-grade students successfully completed a biography project that highlighted their research, presentation, and artistic talents. Everyone did an outstanding job! Additionally, we hosted our own version of March Madness in preparation for STAAR, where students had to complete IXL skills to advance on our bracket. Congratulations to our champion, Brody Dupriest!
