Sure, they wear expensive clothing and their houses are--well, not huge, not by American or "China rich" standards, but much bigger than standard Japanese dwellings! But it's much more subdued, because it's considered in extremely poor taste to flaunt it. This all goes back to the sumptuary laws imposed on the samurai class and the collective sense of humility baked into the culture even now, plus the fact that wealth in Japan doesn't really buy you a substantially different life than most of the population. There aren't very many private schools, the national healthcare is excellent, delicious food is everywhere, and middle-class people save lots of money so they're able to buy luxury goods and/or travel.

As for a book in the same style (i.e., dishy) about rich Japanese people, I don't know any, but my knowledge of contemporary Japanese literature is deplorably scant.
